Struggling to get above 40FPS with an RTX 3060

I've just got an RTX 3060, and I thought this might enable me to play BF2042 as my PC now meets recommended spec. I've tried various settings ranging from low to high and I'm usually getting between 30 and 50 FPS at 2560x1080. I know performance has been an issue, but by all accounts I should be able to do better than that, right?

Here's a 3DMark stress test / system spec: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/76909996?

  • @Punxel Afraid not, 4790k cannot handle this game, 3060 is doing fine, but the CPU is very old and although meets the minimum spec, you are getting the minimum FPS because of it.

Just a note, I am CPU bound on a 12900k, that is just how terrible this game is.

I was suspecting it must be the CPU, thanks both for clarifying. I guess that explains why graphics settings don't make much difference. Is there anything in particular that can be configured to minimise the problem?

It sounds like the official requirements should be amended. i7 4790 is actually the recommended processor on the EA website, not the minimum.

The only thing you can do is make apps are not running in the background. And pray DICE optimizes the game engine.

Looked at your benchmarks again and see that your CPU average temp is 88c that is pretty high, Maby check/clean the CPU cooler reapply thermal compound. The CPU could be throttling.

This felt like a good shout so I reapplied the thermal paste. Running the same test again gave similar results, though the average temperature had come down to 85. Not sure if that's made a difference, but the game is still pretty much unplayable, even on low settings with 64 players. I guess I'll stick to BF4 where I can play Caspian Border at 200FPS if I like.

Hopefully we get an optimization patch soon. They've butchered Frostbite. My friend has a 3080 and while playing on 4k it utilizes like 30-50% which is absolutely AWFUL. Also the game uses 6 cores so anything above that and you'll get awful utilization there too. And if you're using a 4 core CPU well...let's just say you will get frustrated at times lol. It's unplayable a lot of the time with the micro stutters/lag/rubber banding.

85c is better than 88c, sorry it didn't help with the game. Yeah, BF4 is pretty optimized and a good game.
