I'm having that exact same issue with the same error code 1:4688822970:-4685921B ! Some days I can play for hours until I'm done and other days it just keeps on disconnecting on the menu, while loading to a server, seconds or a few minutes after playing on a server after wasting an hour or two a day in the background just trying to play.
I have tried absolutely everything I've read on the forums here and on the steam discussion, as I am also playing via steam on PC.

Support will tell you to view and try https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Unable-to-connect-to-ea-server-battlefield-2042/m-p/11057027 or https://support.microsoft.com/windows/fix-network-connection-issues-in-windows-166a28c4-14c1-bdb1-473c-09c1571455d8 . However as I can connect to the servers to play sometimes with no issues and other times with issues there is clearly an issue with either the Game or EA's own servers.
You can try to change your DNS to google 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4, reset DNS cache by running ipconfig /flushdns && ipconfig /registerdns, disable IPv6 on your ethernet/wifi adapter, unplug router for 30 seconds, forward the game's ports to your computer, double check the game is allowed on the firewall, verify the game files integrity, setting the BF2042.exe to run in Windows 8 Compatibility and Run as administrator, disabled any game overlays like steam/xbox game bar/gforce experience, shutdown any programs that read your computer's network for viruses and other stuff "Web Protection" on Malwarebytes or McAfee WebAdvisor for example, change your EA account password (haha), remove all your trusted devices on the EA Customer Portal (haha...).... and the list goes on and on but don't expect any of these to actually work except for maybe the firewall or web protection stuff could fix some user's issues.
There is also the EA client's App recovery, reinstalling the EA Client, and finally reinstalling/repairing the EA Anticheat from the executable within the game folder.

it Fixed my problemThis problem is related with one of Windows Services, the name of this service is Client DNS "DNSCache".
You need to check if your Client DNS "DNSCache" if it is running.
*Solution: this service needs to be fully operational, and if it is not, you need to solve any problems with it.
To complete, open the Command Prompt as Admin, and execute all those commands one by one:
Type " ipconfig /flushdns " and press Enter.
Type " ipconfig /registerdns " and press Enter.
Type " ipconfig /release " and press Enter.
Type " ipconfig /renew " and press Enter.
Type " netsh winsock reset " and press Enter.

By any chance were you using anything like a VPN (including split tunnels with or without bf42 on it) before or while playing BF?
If so, the ipconfig /flushdns && ipconfig /registerdns should be just enough.
