Vehicle thermal smoke not preventing missile locks

Product: Battlefield 2042
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number Nvidia 3070
Enter RAM memory size in GB 32
Are you using any software with an overlay? No
Which part of the game is the issue happening in? Multiplayer
Which part of the mode? Conquest
Please select your region North America
On which server did this happen? All
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) Every day
Summarize your bug Thermal smoke isn't deterring locks or missiles as intended.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Fire missile and the target deploys thermal smoke. It seems to only work for 1 second and then the same missile or additional missiles may hit the target.
What happens when the bug occurs? Lock ons can target you even inside of thermal smoke.
What should be happening instead? If you are inside thermal smoke, a missile that was fired should miss and locking onto you shouldn't be possible for the duration of thermal smoke

Thermal smoke bug is even worse than flare bug

Bump - vehicle inside thermal smoke shouldn't be able to be locked on to, it's semi-useless right now and only seems to offer 1 second of invulnerability to locks.

@JetGunsGoBrrr Yep same here. I'm on Xbox One.

I'm not at home to check but I'm pretty sure the description for chemical smoke even mentions its not reliable!

So it appears Dice couldn't get it to work reliably and just threw it in the game anyway.
  • @JetGunsGoBrrr I tested this and it works 100% of the time in my test server while both moving and stationary against:

    Heli A2G missile
    Jet A2G missile
    IFV AT missile

However, it fails 100% of the time against Sundance Nades which is a bug I believe. Should note as well that if someone fires at close range with any of the weapons above the IR smoke will likely not work as it will be too late to deploy so best practice is to deploy as soon as you see "incoming missile"

  • @JetGunsGoBrrr I have further tested and found that there is indeed flaws in the system: https://youtu.be/hoeSvJFsivg

First shot in each of the two scenes is Thermal countermeasures deployed almost immediately after the missile is launched. When this happens the CM fails to deflect the missile and damage is sustained. Second shot in each scene is Thermal CM deployed about two seconds into flight. When deployed in this manner the CM's correctly deflect the missile.

The Thermal smoke should work in both scenarios yet it only works in the latter.

Conclusion: Thermal Smoke package counter-measure is broken
