This SOLVED it for me! I'm using a PS5 controller on PC without DS4 now and its working when starting with origin. XP UP SO PEOPLE CAN SEE.
Some steps for people to try to make it work.
1: Go to https://gamepad-tester.com/ to see if your controller is connected. If you see any other controllers connected DISCONNECT them. My vjoy (virtual controller) was enabled for some reason so i uninstalled it.
2: you can try disable vjoy and other same kind of devices by going to the device manager in windows and then clicking ''Human Interface Devices''. I disabled all the ''HID compliant vendor defined device''.
3: i also went to the task manager and cleared all the Razer apps that were running. By suggestion of @CartmansRockets
You might have to restart your pc by disabling some HID compliant devices.
When i went to the gamepad tester it only read my ps5 controller so i booted it up without any DS4 or other apps running and it started working! Also controls feel fine i tested them. Its also recognized as an PS controller automaticly. XP UP SO PEOPLE CAN SEE.

Here's an alternative solution (for origin users) ive just found after trying absolutely everything for the ps4 controller to work.
Ive found that DS4 V1 isnt supported with the current version of the game (whether its anti-cheat, USB devices blocking it idk). However when i plugged my DS4 V2 controller in it working following the steps below:
1. try what JLV_mp4 said first, make sure your gamepad is working on pc via https://gamepad-tester.com/
2. open origin > application settings > origin in-game = make sure enable origin in-game is turned off.
3. close origin and make sure to force close it (ie. task manager or the icon in the bottom right corner)
4. open steam and go to big picture, go to controller settings, make sure only xbox configuration setting is turned on (from the tick list), nothing else.
5. close big picture and go to steam library, add non-steam game and find the BF2042 directory, then select the main EXE file to add it to your list.
6. at this point make sure theres no external software running (ie DS4, razor software or origin) and make sure theyre not running in the background.
7. load the game through steam and this should now work for you (i hope).
I spent about 5 hours trying to solve this and of course, it reverts back to an old issue i had with an origin game lol.
If this worked for you please upvote this so others can see!

This worked for my XBOX One controller (bluetooth). Thanks!

I am also having the same issue.
I've tried using DS4 with my PS4 controller with various settings and nothing worked.Right now my Right Trigger is X and Left Trigger is O.
Changing keybinds in game does nothing.
Ive tried adding the game to steam and using their controller settings and its still the same.Controller works perfectly on Battlefield 5 and everything worked perfectly on the Beta. I have no idea why nothing works now.
I use iCUE4 with corsair products if that helps.
If this doesn't get resolved I will refund the game, I am not able to play with mouse and keyboard. Controller is the only way I can play.
