I was finally able to get my PS5 controller to work! Hopefully, this is a fix for PS5 controllers, possibly PS4 controllers too!
1: Go to https://gamepad-tester.com/ and make sure your controller is plugged in and press any button. For me, it displayed 2 controllers, my PS5 controller, and my emulated controller through DS4windows. If you are not using DS4windows it will only show your PS5 controller.
2: Download DS4windows here (if you don't have it already): https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases/tag/v3.0.18
3: Make you install all the drivers and most importantly HidHide!
4: After setting up your controller (I use wired only), you want to create a new profile for your controller. It will ask you if you want to use a preset option or not. Click No.
5: Go to the Other tab on the right side of DS4, and select Xbox 360 for your emulated controller and Apply. (Not necessary, but go to the Touchpad tab and select output mode to Passthru).
6: After everything is saved, verify on gamepad-tester that it shows: Xbox 360 Controller (XInput STANDARD GAMEPAD)
7: Exit DS4 (MAKE SURE IT IS FULLY EXITED AND NOT RUNNING) and open up Hid-Hide, follow the instructions here: https://kanuan.github.io/DS4WSite/guides/solving-double-input/
8: After completing these instructions, open up DS4 and unplug and replug your controller in. Make sure there's only 1 controller under gamepad tester and that it is the Xbox 360 Controller.
9: Go to steam and add Battlefield to your library(Google if you don't know how, I'm too lazy to type it out). Make sure it is "BF2042.exe" that you add.
10: Open up Steam big picture and navigate to the settings at the top right, go to Controller settings, make sure at the bottom it shows Xbox 360 as your detected controller, and make sure Xbox configuration is the only thing selected.
11: Boot up BF2042 in big picture mode.
I ran into a few problems when setting all this up myself, so it's possible that you might run into the same problems I did. I will do my best to help if you do run into any issues. The most important part is that in gamepad tester that there is only 1 controller and that it's an Xbox 360 controller!
I believe the bug is that we are having is both no support for Playstation controllers and having double input for controllers/and or other peripherals.
Hopefully, this works for you guys!
