If Xbox or PS4/PS5 controller doesn't work, do the following:

1. Unplug all devices attached via USB to motherboard apart from mouse and keyboard

2. If using DS4 or x360ce.com, run them as admin

3. Now run BF2042

Voila! the controller should work now as long as you follow the steps above.

P.S. USB devices include: headset, USB extension, bluetooth adapter...etc

Hopefully EA will sort this bug out at some point.

Can’t even play
