My Xbox One controller worked without any issues at all initially, but after the latest patch has been really spotty. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won’t.
Moments after the latest patch (I was toward the end of a match when it was released, so I immediately downloaded it and played), it worked just fine. An hour or so later, I restarted my game, and that was the first time I had any issues at all. A simple restart of the PC managed to fix it. The next few times I played, I messed with Steam controller settings and reboots for about 10-20 minutes to make it functional. The same fixes weren’t working from one launch to the next. At least not in the same order. Yesterday it took about 45 minutes of settings, menus, reboots and four-letter words before I got it to respond. Today, it hasn’t worked at all.
While, until today, I have always managed to get it to work, it always felt more difficult each time I started the game. No consistency from one band-aid fix to the next at all, and no identifiable logic to any of them. I really want to like and defend this game, too. I personally think it’s really fun to play when I can. You’re breaking my heart right now, Dice. Let me love you.
While plenty of games across just about all genres manage to get it perfectly right, plenty also don’t. I do wish more devs would let us select our method of control in-game rather than relying on automatic identification methods that get muddied by multiple launchers’ settings not cooperating with periphery support apps settings not cooperating with Windows settings. It’s a maddening problem, but not rare.
I don't think this problem will get fixed this year. They have not even acknowledged the problem in any capacity here or on social media. This may be one of those issues that gets fixed months from now with some small announcement in patch notes. I could not get a refund so $90 down the drain until they maybe fix this. This game is a huge mess and at this point it's hard to feel any sympathy for EA/DICE since they released this game in this shape.
