Attack Helicopter Gunner POV Toggle Missing Compared to BF3 & BF4 and Stingers
Old-school Battlefield veteran here. First off, I really enjoyed the Battlefield 6 Beta - the helicopter gameplay feels fun and engaging overall. I've been playing Battlefield for years, including over 6,700 kills in the BF4 Attack Helicopter, and over 2,000 kills in the BF3 Attack Helicopter, so I want to share some specific feedback about the Attack Helicopter from the BF6 beta. The mechanics of flying the attack helicopter feel much closer to the classic BF3 & BF4 versions than the BF 2042 version, which is a huge plus. The Apache Helicopter from the BF6 Beta does feel a little heavier to fly in terms of acceleration, deceleration, and turning speed than the previous AH-1Z Viper from BF3 & BF4 did. I'll take that "heavier feel" over BF 2042's Attack chopper, which felt like a feather floating in the air. That said, I wanted to share two specific pieces of feedback regarding the attack helicopter and Stingers.
In Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, the gunner had the ability to toggle between two perspectives:
- Turret camera view - looking through the stabilized gun screen with thermal/zoom.
- Cockpit POV - seeing from the gunner's own seat, with freedom to look out of the cockpit.
This second option (cockpit POV) was extremely useful for situational awareness back in BF3 and BF4. It allowed the gunner to spot incoming aircraft, ground vehicles, or infantry outside of the turret's FOV, and then communicate those threats to the pilot. It made the gunner feel more like an active crew member rather than just a turret operator, and it strengthened the teamwork dynamic between the pilot and gunner.
In the Battlefield 6 Beta, the gunner only has access to the turret camera view, which feels restrictive. Without the cockpit POV, the gunner is essentially "tunnel-visioned" and can't effectively help the pilot with spotting and communication.
Suggestion: Please consider bringing back the option for helicopter gunners to toggle between turret-camera view and cockpit POV (as in BF3/BF4). This would improve teamwork, situational awareness, and the overall immersive experience of being a chopper gunner. I would love to see this feature come to Battlefield 6.
Secondly, the fact that the Stinger "Surface to Air Missile" can shoot down a helicopter with one rocket seems a little bit overpowered in my opinion. I understand that is very realistic to how that would play out in a real-life scenario, but for a video game, it is kind of unfair that a highly-skilled chopper pilot can get easily shot down by a random engineer waving his Stinger around. Now, if multiple players coordinate with Stingers to bring down a helicopter, that is fair and expected. But the fact that the attack chopper can be taken down with one missile is kind of unfair and seems unbalanced, especially when the engineer can also carry an RPG at the same time (this is coming from an Engineer main). Even with the attack helicopter deploying flares, the chopper cannot stay alive long enough if a single infantry player with a Stinger decides to target it.
Suggestion: Either increase the durability of the attack helicopters against a single Stinger, or adjust flare effectiveness/cooldowns so that they provide a more reliable counterplay option. That way, it still takes coordination (or multiple lock-ons) to bring down a skilled chopper crew, instead of it being a one-shot scenario.
Other than that, I had a wonderful time flying the Apache Helicopter in the BF6 Beta. I hope you see this message and take it into consideration!
