Battlefield 6 Beta Honest Feedback (from a veteran)
Instead of starting a new discussion for each point, I've decided to put them all here. As a Battlefield Veteran who played almost all the BF games, starting from the legendary game BF2 till this very day, I want to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly. As well as my wishes.
If you're interested in my opinions please read some of my key points below, and share with me your thoughts as well, because after all as a software engineer I know for sure that Devs need our feedback, and that's the main point of the beta.
The good :
This beta is one of the best betas I've ever played, still think BF1 beta is more stable, but this one is way better, for it's :
Graphics, details :
The first thing everyone noticed while jumping into the first round, is obviously the stunning graphics and the level of details which I've never seen like it before on any BF game or even other games like COD, the destruction is incredible, the city of Cairo looks alive, you truly feel that there is a fight happening every where even outside the playable area, I have to give those who made this piece of art my salute.
I also love the new option Weapon field of view (Narrow or Wide) it gives us the chance to choose how weapons will appear, "bigger" for monitors or "smaller" for TVs.
Customization :
The customization menu is also amazing, I find it better than COD which restricts the number of attachments to 5, BF6 made a new limit system which is amazing.
Gunplay :
The gunplay for now feels way better than BF2042, I still think BF5 had the best gunplay, because it mixed the classic (realistic) gunplay of older BFs with a modern one, you can shoot in burst or semi modes just like in real life, or, if you can control the recoil then you just shoot in auto mode, COD MW19 had also a great gunplay, but it focused more in auto mode rather than semi and burst. BF6 right now feels like it has a mix between the two, which is great, they already announced that recoil will be increased, also good. I hope when the game releases it will be improved more and more to keep it balanced.
Movement :
YES, BF5 movement is back, I consider it the best in all FPS games.
There is other great features in this game that I won't even talk too much about them : The UI, The deployment map (with zoom), customizing loadouts after deploy, dragging downed teammates, debris remain after destruction, sound design, warfare smoke, vehicles details, maps interiors, voice chat... and more and more.
We all know at this point that this game deserves our money, and I will buy it after a few weeks of release, just to be more sure that launch issues are fixed (which is a normal thing by the way, because AAA games are hard to make).
The bad :
Movement :
There is only one thing that made me a little bit concerned, and that's the movement speed, I'm not talking about sprinting, I'm talking about moving normally, I think it's faster than it should, at some point I felt like I was playing COD and not BF, while fighting those annoying players who kept moving right and left while shooting me, wouldn't consider it a big problem, but hope they'll change that.
UI :
UI is good but not perfect, here are some of the annoying things I had while customizing my settings :
- No option to disable weapon depth of field, even in the settings file on PC.
- Locking tank's turret requires holding the key and no way to toggle it.
- The new reward option's key is not customizable, default one is number [6] on the keyboard.
- There is no GPU limitation option like in older BFs.
- There is a lot of sub menus, and there is no search input to find a specific option.
- While in a submenu, pressing the escape key opens a new settings window, instead of going back, it works only if I click on the back arrow using mouse.
- Deployment menu doesn't show squad mates list.
- Squad mates numbers are not displayed next to their names, you can't tell who's 1 and who's 2
- Passengers names are not displayed while in vehicle.
Time to kill :
Maybe when they increase recoil, this problem will vanish, but still think it's way too fast; without mentioning the shotgun XD.
RPG :
RPG rocket is too fast, it needs to be something like BF3/BF4, otherwise vehicles are doomed in this game, which will make them pointless. I miss the good old BF3/BF4 days when we used to dodge rockets while flying helis or driving a tank, I'm not saying it should be as slow as those games, but definitely not this fast. (and yes I know it feels like reel life but this is BF, it's neither a milsim nor Fortnite)
Vehicles :
As much as I love the new vehicles mechanism, it's not that good :
- tank turrets are too slow, and the tank takes some time to accelerate even with boost.
- Choppers are an easy target to AAs, they don't fly that high, they are slow, the cockpit takes most of the screen and of course they are not as deadly as they should (no, I don't like what we had in BF4, they used to be very toxic back then) hope they get a small buff.
- Jets are just like BF2042 so boring, not really fun, we need an option to choose between the new flying mechanism and the old one. The new one you have to accelerate while turning to not loose speed, while the old one we used to slightly slow down while turning to keep it in 300Kph which is the perfect turning speed in jets.
- Can't look back in 3rd camera, I have to turn the camera my self.
- No HP number.
- UI doesn't display acceleration, if I boost I won't know if it works, only if I hear the engine.
Sounds :
Weapon sounds are good, but not that strong and punchy, hope they will add an option to increase weapon sound so we can hear those beasts firing.
Footsteps are barely hearable.
Voice chat, can't increase my Mic volume, and my friends barely hear me.
Invincible vehicles :
If a tank is getting hit, and many engineers behind it are repairing it, no one will be able to destroy it. BF5 had a perfect solution, if someone is next to a vehicle that is being hit, he will take damage too, for example if I'm repairing the tank I might get killed when it takes damage, this needs to come back.
Soldiers Models :
As much as I love how they look, but it still very hard to tell who's an engineer and who's not, especially if I'm in a tank.
Others :
Scope glint is too big, hope it will be reduced.
Decouple tank turret affects both cameras 1st and 3rd, hope we will have an option to change it per camera, personally, when in 3rd camera I like it On, in 1st I like it Off.
The ugly :
Crashes :
I had many crashes with my AMD RX 6800XT, I can run the game smoothly at 120fps, but it will crash a lot, I had to limit my fps to 75 to reduce the number of crashes, my GPU reached 101°c while it's max is 110c°, and that's not good at all, not only me I had friends with Nvidia gpus who had crashes as well.
Map design :
Siege of Cairo is the best map so far, it reminds me with BF3, it has a lot of paths which is GOOD but also bad, you get attacked literally from everywhere, especially if you're in a tank, the solution to that is to increase the map size a little bit more by adding new paths with less encounters on them.
Gibraltar is my worst, the map is way smaller than it should, still it's a good looking map with a lot of details, hope they make it more bigger.
Liberation peak is also small, not very interesting, needs to be extended with more interesting locations to fight on.
Operation metro :
This legendary map need to come back, I have a friend who has a GTX 1050, he couldn't play the beta, but he told me if this game is going to have this map, he will upgrade his PC just for that. Hope they surprise us on launch XD.
Bugs :
I had a bug where if I aim using a scope it turns black, and that happened when I switched to my grenade launcher and aimed, then switched back to my weapon and aim again (and boom it's black), to fix it I had to do the same thing, switching to the grenade launcher and bla bla...
Ragdoll, bodies fly all over the place.
Main menu loop, sometimes I get stuck in a loop and the menu keeps loading.
Vehicles aim bug, it takes some time to aim, and I can't change the camera while aiming.
World's details : (not a big deal)
Fire and explosion impacts some times disappear instantly, if you blow a civilian vehicle, fire around it makes some burned impact in the ground, but once the fire is gone, the black burning impact disappears instantly.
My wishes :
Hope we get a lot of content, especially during seasons, I'm hoping for a minimum of 3 maps per season, one remake from (BF2/BF3/BF4/BFH) and 2 new ones.
I know that this game won't have levolution but I still hope we get it in some maps. And if we will, I hope it will become dynamic.
Let's not forget a mixed server browser (official & community), control mode from BF2042 (Conquest but vehicles require score to purchase them) and "score radio call" like in BF5 but for every squad member not only the leader, to call for (Artillery, Tomahawk missile, transport vehicle drop...).
With all this being said , BF6 is still going to be huge, even if most of the bad and ugly I've mentioned will remain; Because it's a great comeback to the CLASSIC BATTLEFIELD we all love.
Thank you for reading.
