Knifing.
Right now knifing is terrible, you sneak behind enemy lines, you go in for a sneaky takedown and you prod them because you was off by a mm. Melee needs to be more viable, maybe give assault a buff a...
100% agree. I’ve always loved the satisfaction of pulling off a knife kill and collecting dog tags. In BF4 we had that stupid counter knife mechanic, which ruined knifing a lot, but it was still far better than this garbage they call knifing in BF6. BF4 even added a bow, letting you play a more primitive style. Was it as effective as a rifle? No. Was it fun and challenging? Absolutely.
In BF6 it feels like a punishment to even try using the knife. I’ve had so many moments where someone blindly runs right past me, giving me the perfect chance for a silent takedown. But either I don’t get the prompt and end up chasing them like a lunatic, or I get the prompt but since they’re moving it vanishes in 0.0001 seconds. Then I’m left wildly swinging my knife, giving away my position, and since the TTK is so ridiculously fast, they just turn, spray my stomach, and I’m instantly dead.
And that’s when the game even lets you try. Sometimes you sneak behind someone, line up perfectly, and still the takedown prompt never appears. If they turn around, forget about it, no front takedowns, just more wild knife swinging until you die. Knifing is already one of the hardest, riskiest things to pull off in BF. Buffing it wouldn’t hurt balance at all, because it only rewards players who manage to sneak up in a game where guns dominate every single engagement. If I can get through gunfire, flanking routes, and enemy vision just to be close enough to stab you, you deserve to be die. Period.
Another massive problem ruining CQB is constant auto spotting. I see my enemies all the time, not because I’m checking corners, but because the minimap literally hands me their location. Someone camping in a corner? The map will light them up. Sure, that’s an easy kill for me, but I’d rather have to actually check my surroundings and risk missing them. With the way it is now, you can’t take two steps without spotting or being spotted by someone or something. Hiding is pointless. Auto spotting kills stealth, kills tension, and kills variety and everything turns into constant run and gun chaos with orange dots everywhere.
Then there’s the TTK. It’s so short that whoever shoots first basically wins. That might sound fine on paper, but it removes almost all room for counterplay. You can’t react, you can’t reposition, and you definitely can’t try anything risky like knifing. Lowering the TTK would make fights more dynamic, give players a chance to recover, and actually reward skill over pure reaction time.
These are the 3 problems that has bothered me the most during the beta, a broken knife system, extreme spotting, and an absurd TTK. Fixing all three would make the game not just more fun, but more varied. Knifing would be a real option, as it should be, spotting wouldn’t feel like wallhacks, and fights would be more than just coin flips on who shoots first.
Rant over, thank you!
I'm totally with you Chocobuza
Melee right now is in a deep deep hole.
This combined with how rubbish explosives and vehicles are, it's like the whole game is designed from the ground up to support run and gun gameplay.
Gone is the open warfare sandbox full of fun and creative ways to play the game.
