My praises and complaints
Starting off, I know open betas tend to be more performance testing based but it is also the first time most of the player base is playing. First impressions mean a lot.
That said I think it’s in a pretty good spot. Destruction feels awesome, maybe a bit too sensitive, but the amount is great. The effects and sound design give it that booming chaotic effect I have missed. The revive mechanic is amazing and immersive. The proximity chat is a fantastic addition and makes the game more immersive, though I wish it was for more than just your squad. However, the actual gunplay and vehicle aspect is lacking to me.
Starting off with the Vehicles because I main ground vehicles and dabble in air, though I have yet to get a plane in this game. Plane-ly (see what I did there 😉) they are made of paper… or the anti-armor is too strong. Tanks are meant to be just that TANKS. Power houses that serve a tactical advantage and should be targeted by a squad or two. In the current state ONE engineer can kill one. I get that they are trying to bring back destruction but 5 rockets seems like too many. Even if one person could kill a tank then at least give self repair back. I love that friendly engineers pose more of a help now and I could repair by getting out BUT then the tank gets stolen, so just let me repair from inside. Or make repair stations more common and in better spots. It’s at spawn so by the time I get there, repair, and leave I may as well have just respawned the tank.
As for the gunplay Im going to be a little less critical given we only have close range urban maps to go off of. However, DMRs and pistols are bb guns.. at any range another weapon is better. Instead of a best of both world its the worst of both. The pistol I know is a side arm, a back up. Yet I’m better off stoning them than pulling out my pistol. Snipers also don’t have much of a drop I have noticed too, or maybe the maps are too small to show that right now. Not glaring issues but something of note.
Lastly, the game just feels too fast paced. Not the capture times or even the reload times, even though they are quick. I’m talking the core gameplay. Now this can very easily be just the maps they have out right now but I run into people too often, not much “down time” or time to reposition. Both of these come with urban warfare in general so again.. not too critical right now. Just feel like there is near constant action when that hasn't always been the case with these titles.
Great game so far though. Potential CoD killer good thing or not. Just not quite the throw back to older games. Would love to hear what anyone else has to say :)
