Sniping felt too easy in the beta.
At the time of this writing, my PC is packed up due to unforseen pest circumstances. Eradication and the lack of things to do has me itchy to play anything. So, I figured I'd put my 2 cents out into the world hoping it might garner traction.
It's been more than a week since the beta has been over. Battlefield Studios has observed most feedback already and made changes accordingly. Sniping, I feel, needs a change as well.
I fired up older modern Battlefield titles to cross reference my findings, and I've come to the conclusion that sniping feels a little soulless. I have a few things to point out with the games I played.
In Bad Company 2 (yes you can still play it today, look up "Project Rome"), There was no range finding and a lot of guesswork. Projectile speed was a lot slower. The play spaces were a lot bigger, and finding spots to snipe from was a good feeling. I felt skilled.
Battlefield 3 introduced scope glint. Albeit wasn't as bad as it is in Battlefield 6. Battlefield 3 held to the core values for sniping. Spawn Beacon and Soflam for marking tanks to support your engineer teammates. You had a purpose.
Battlefield 4 added what felt like larger scope glint. Both you and I know that it's just a videogame, but scope glint is EXTREMELY situational. The game also added range finding, and zeroing, but didn't altogether eliminate the classic hold-over guesswork we'd have to do in previous titles. Projectile speed felt okay enough to have a good time. I felt skilled enough in the game to consistently kill.
Jumping over other Battlefield titles I didn't play much of, 1 and 5. I barely played any 2042 and we all have beaten the horse dead as to why.
Battlefield 6 Beta rolls around and here's what I have problems with. We've spent time on title after title sniping. Things have changed for both better and worse. The scope glint NEEDS to go or be severely toned down. Maybe even add an attachment slot to longer range scopes for perhaps a shroud? To lessen the effects of the glint? Everyone on the map knows my location when I scope in. Very concealing...
Projectile speed is crazy quick. Between 100 and 300 meters I see no difference. The damage values are fine, it's just the speed. It feels so unimpressive when my bullet doesn't travel a distance, it seems.
Rangefinding is super overpowered. There literally is no holdover guesswork in Battlefield 6. You can look at a target or the surrounding area and, if you have a rangefinder, hold a key to auto-range your scope to the EXACT distance of that target. I can see it being helpful in realistic situations, and call me picky, but I feel it takes all of the skill and satisfaction out of the class.
My final thought, well everyone's, is that autospotting needs to go. It won't be a problem if there is a server browser and we have access to hardcore right away. But knowing how titles have previously released (both CoD and Battlefield), I won't hold my breathe for a server browser. All most of the battlefield community can do is hope.
Rant over, hoping maybe for some change. :)
