Thoughts about Portal in BF6
First off, I want to say that bringing Portal back for BF6 is an incredibly exciting decision. The concept is one of the most ambitious and community-driven features Battlefield has ever had, and it has huge potential to keep the game fresh for years.
Here are a few thoughts on how Portal could really shine this time:
Reuse BF2042’s Remade Maps:
The maps you remade for Portal in BF2042 were fantastic, and it would be great to see them in BF6 as well. From a production standpoint, it seems like porting these would be far more efficient than rebuilding decades-old maps from scratch — meaning more high-quality content could be available sooner.
Community-Driven Content Updates:
Consider letting the community vote every few months on which maps or features should be added to Portal. This would keep the mode feeling fresh and give players a real sense of ownership in its direction.
Authentic Gameplay Feel for Classic Eras:
When including content from older Battlefield titles, please aim to match the handling and physics as closely as possible. For example, a BF3 jet should fly and handle like it did in BF3 — agile, skill-based, and rewarding for mastery — rather than simplified. The same principle applies to gadgets, unlocks, and vehicle/weapon mechanics from those eras.
Sustainable Support Model:
If additional funding is needed to maintain and expand Portal, I believe many players (myself included) would happily support it through EA Play subscriptions or even renting dedicated servers.
Portal has the potential to become the most expansive, community-driven multiplayer platform in gaming. With regular updates, authentic legacy gameplay, and strong community input, it could not only stand out within Battlefield but set a new industry standard.
