Thoughts on Gameplay

There’s a lot to break down here, but I want to start with the good.

  1. Movement and gunplay has a good balance of speed and flow without venturing into COD level.
  2. Most weapons feel balanced but with enough quirks to make each viable. The shotgun is fantastic close to short-medium range. The has enough recoil to reduce range, but still effective at distance. The pistol is pretty bad, but it probably is supposed to be. The sniper is easy to use, and maybe a bit too easy at times, probably needs more sway or time to reset recoil. The lmg needs more stopping power as it feels worse than the smg, even though it does have okay range.
  3. The audio mixing and voice design is good overall. I love the death screams, really feels like old BF. However, some of the narrator dialogue is terrible, like one where a female announcer says they’re a sniper in the area, but she states it like a question and pauses midway through the line.
  4. The map layouts push for good fight pacing; enough to not get boring, but not too fast to feel like TDM.
  5. The weapon locked conquest is definitely the way forward. Each class’s weapons felt good for what they were trying to specialize in. That forces people to have to make decisions on their class to best adjust to the current needs.

Now onto the iffy/bad.

  1. Conquest still feels too fast and close quarters. Even on the biggest beta map, it feels like how I think the domination game mode should. The conquest maps are just too small. I’m not saying they need to double or triple in size, but definitely need to get bigger and less funneled. The map design does a great job to encourage fights in areas of interest. Making more of this principle can help offset the slight slowdown of making conquest feel grander.
  2.  Capping is too fast in both domination and conquest. The conquest zones are too small, but is perfect in domination.
  3. Domination spawns are exactly like COD. They flip too fast and spawn into existing fights.
  4. Breakthrough is way too defender sided. Yes, I’ve won as attacker, but it should feel more balanced instead of walking directly into a meat grinder every single game. At least with Rush you had to physically go to the bomb and defuse, rather than just getting kills in the cap zone from afar.
  5. Ground vehicles have lost all their BF weightiness. Turrets are floaty and can move 180 in less than a second. Vehicles of BF old felt big and powerful, but cumbersome at times. Additionally, because of how weak and floaty the vehicles are, they feel way too much like a vehicle in COD or Warzone. Bring back the weighty power and make it less run and gun.
  6. Ground vehicles are way too weak. They blow up too easy without a repair tool and take too long when being repaired by a single person. To find a balance, a solution may be to make armored vehicles have 1 or 2 additional rocket hits before destroying and the repair tool should repair at a slower rate.
  7. Also, I thought assault was supposed to have the respawn beacon? I don’t know if that’s for only a certain game mode, but it definitely should not be in the scout class. Removing it would proxy nerf the class (which is currently very powerful), because I can camp on the rocks way to easy with a respawn beacon. If I had to run all the way back to a rock each time, that’d make sniper camping less viable, but still powerful due to how the good sniper is.
