This is one of the reasons why PvE bot matches and it's full progression is so needed/wanted. I myself am 60 this year and stopped playing anything PvP many years ago already. Unfortunately franchises like this (and others like it) don't develop a game with their hearts any longer...they develop for profit only...so our dilemma falls upon deaf ears.
Your dilemma was literally solved by PvE bot matches. The closest solution I could think of would be a dedicated server that is locked to people that have been verified to have similar conditions.
Any type of matchmaking based on stats has no place in a casual game.
I and many others believe you are wrong-this is why the NBA does not play high school matches
