Well done Battlefield 6. Feedback from AOU Sleepy:
I try to stay modest but I think it's important for people to know that this feedback comes from a Veteran player of many shooters and a few Battlefield games. In general, my friends and I consider me to be a skilled player and I get hate messages or accused or cheating ha ha.
So what do I think? Battlefield 6 might be in my top 5 favorite games if it keeps heading in the right direction, as it has done so far. So here's my *hopefully* constructive criticism:
First, the animations seem clunky, kind of older video game vibes. Not smooth and precise like Battlefield 1. Maybe that’s because they are fast animations that leave little room for smooth transitions. Then again, and I hate to compare Battlefield to Call of Duty, but the modern COD games have fast yet smooth animations that blend well with the environment. If I am being honest most of the animations need some polish, but some of the most important ones that may need some extra time would be the vault, prone and dolphin dive. Those three are very un-immersive. And what’s up with the recon UAV? I can’t even tell what’s going on with that one; it's straight out of 2005.
This next one hurts to say but Liberation Peak is an awful map. Completely unbalanced in Breakthrough and the tanks run the map in Conquest. Not to mention the snipers. I almost always run a sniper on that map just to get rid of the platoon of snipers blowing the brains out of my teammates- it’s rough. The map is open; especially after the vehicles get done with the structures which don't provide much anyway. No game mode is fun on that map; it's not balanced enough and should be reworked. Infantry are just sitting ducks for countless snipers and sometimes up to three tanks. I feel the tanks themselves are balanced, but Liberation Peak makes them too strong.
If you are playing Siege of Cairo you can get on top of the bridge and parkour your way onto the other buildings. I’ve used it a few times and it’s fun but a bit unbalanced in some situations. As much fun as it is, it needs to be patched.
This one is hard for me to complain about because I actually enjoy doing it. I’ve found that running through the enemies HQ to reach a different area unlocks new and very effective flanks. I’ve come up behind a dozen infantry units and slaughtered them with a shotgun doing this. Maybe you could extend the HQ borders on the Siege of Cairo? I really don’t know how to fix it but it’s problematic for the opposing team (if you get the right side).
Next would be the weapon balancing. This is a tough and touchy subject as many people will disagree, just keep in mind this is meant to be a discussion not a bashing. If you disagree, express it, but don’t bring hate.
I feel more testing needs to be done with the majority of weapons. The SMGs are the kings or Siege of Cairo which is fine because it’s a close range map, but you would think that Assault Rifles would then shine on a map with more range? Nope. I’ve found that even on Liberation Peak I would rather have an SMG in my hand because the Assault Rifles are too slow in close quarters but not effective enough from range to be worthwhile. I prefer to use an LMG, DMR, or Sniper on that map because the Assault Rifles don’t have that niche that makes them effective.
To continue on the weapon discussion; if Battlefield decides to go with Closed Weapon gameplay then the Assault Rifles need a rework. Honestly a Closed Weapon system doesn’t make much sense anyway. I’ve played the other Battlefields and found it to be more of a nuisance rather than a boon. There has to be a better way to balance weapons than to restrict them in that way. I mean think about it, an infiltration style class (Assault) should have access to an SMG. It makes sense for the Recon class to have DMRs. It’s reasonable to have a Medic with an Assault Rifle and there’s nothing wrong with an Engineer laying down covering fire with an LMG so they can stay close to their vehicle. It’s not befitting of a modern shooter to have these kinds of restrictions.
A lot of people will disagree and that’s fine. As long as the Developers allow for both closed and open weapon game modes everyone wins.
I wish I had more ideas for the Weapon balancing but with so few maps I don’t have much feedback for you other than Assault Rifles need work and the Recon signature weapon trait should extend to DMRs.
Well that’s it! If I think of more I’ll post it but in general; really, really, great job with Battlefield 6- I love it already. A big thanks to the developers at DICE, Criterion Games, Motive Studio, Ripple Effect Studios and Ridgeline Games. I hope this was helpful.
