After playing 2042, V, 3, and 1,

As the title states, after playing 2042, V, 3, and 1 (since playing the Beta of 6), I have decided in good conscience that I cannot and will not be buying 6 (at this time).  There are a multitude of reasons that bring me to this decision.

In no particular order, these reasons are as follows:

  1. Auto-spotting is atrocious.  Thank G-d for kill cam because otherwise I might not know how atrocious it really is.  I just played V and noticed that I was getting killed while I thought I was in cover.  The kill cam showed that on the other side of my cover, the enemy could clearly see me due to spotting me through said cover.
  2. Console player's gifts.  People using controllers have EA/Dice approved cheats.  I will not and cannot support this.  Reduced recoil is one thing, but to have aim assist, etc. is more than I can or will handle.  My life is stressful enough dealing with the day to day bull crap that goes on.  I play games to relax.  If the blatant disregard for one type of player over another exists, then I want no part of it.
  3. Balancing.  I cannot understand how a group that makes games cannot (or will not) figure out balancing of teams.  Why is it that all of the high ranking players get grouped up together when people just starting the game seem to all get thrown on the other team.  Is it not enough that the new player has a learning curve of figuring out the maps and weapons, etc. and they're going to be thrown in with a bunch of other people trying to figure this same stuff out?!  This is absurd!
  4. No option to play just with PC or just with console.  I get it, you're trying to make a game that everyone can play.  I can actually appreciate that.  However, do you know who your true customer is?  I would guess that you do not (and have not since Battlefield 1).  You are trying to cater to a very large group of players that has no commitment to you or your brand.  At the cost of increasing sales for the short-term, you are catering to a group that will stop playing your game once the next newest thing comes out.

So, because of these issues (and others I'm probably forgetting), I will not be buying this one.  Quite honestly, I had hoped that 6 would have been more than I know it's going to be.  Sadly (for EA/Dice), the last Battlefield game I purchased was 1.  Luckily, I now have Game Pass and was able to download and play 2042 and 5.  Doing so has shown me just how much I hate the direction EA/Dice has gone.

You almost "got" me to purchase what I'm sure is probably going to be a complete and utter disappointment.  I was waiting with excitement for October to get here.  Now, I find comfort in my decision.  Will I eventually play 6?  Probably.  However, I won't be paying $60+ for it.  So, continue catering to the sweaty players.  I'll wait to get this once they have moved on to the next, great (albeit poorly made) AAA game.

Sincerely,

EMKA

Just played BF1 under my wife's account (brand new player).  Will have to say that it was nice to play a game where I wasn't being handicapped on equipment.  Balancing was f'ed up though but at least you didn't have both things against you....

    1. They have already mentioned they will be reducing the auto-spotting.
    2. You can disable cross play on PC, meaning that the vast majority of people you play will be mouse and keyboard users.
    3. Battlefield does not deliberately put all high-ranking players on a team versus low-ranking players. Generally each team has players of all skill levels. It deliberately does not put a heavy emphasis on skill in matchmaking players, because it tends to ruin the experience.
    4. This isn't true, there will be the option to disable cross play between PC and consoles.

Edit: A correction regarding point 2. It is yet unclear if PC users can disable cross play.

  • Agree with the post and some comment from ghostflux; agree on points 1 and 3. Cross-platform is getting that option but its only given to console players.

Personally my biggest concerns is the skins and the annual release they are "considering", No to both. I agree that for a company that has been producing BF for years, to be struggling this bad balancing their units tells you a-lot. I see potential on what they are trying but their implementation can and will change what BF is. Please do not turn this into another COD like game, worst case scenario change the title as i wouldn't mind waiting

Battlefield 2042 allowed PC-players to disable cross play. Now that you've mentioned it, I did some further looking into it and the option on PC is indeed missing. Have there been any official statements on the matter?

You are free to voice your opinion as I am free to counter-argue with mine, as a console player.

Try to play without aim assist against a PC player and then collect your thoughts.

I think your last sentence in the quoted text above lays bare the actual root-cause of your frustration.

  • Ghostflux: yes, their statement was console gets the option, they want both sided to play together.

As for AA. I heard there is no AA and that you are the skill, which is y console can choose to play with pc. I can't confirm this though so don't quote me on this, I saw YouTube video mention it but can't guarantee it.
