All Gadgets Need a Buff

I don’t know what DICEs issue is with having every gadget nerfed into the ground to where they all feel equally terrible. I don’t think there’s a single gadget in the game left that I genuinely enjoy using. The way the gadgets operate push me to just play solo with a support bag. Gadgets are supposed to feel powerful in their specific roles. They should be good. That’s what makes battlefield fun. Having your classic shooter experience on top of having strong secondary gadgets. But in BF6, they feel weak and honestly useless to use. C4 is extremely inconsistent and weak at taking out vehicles. I put 3 c4 onto a little bird when a pilot was repairing it. 150 total damage to the helicopter when I detonated it… wow so fun DICE.

I primary the engineer class so I’m gonna talk about it in this discussion. But let it be known that every class in this game has terrible gadgets. The engineer class has all but been rendered useless with nerf after nerf after nerf. All the AT launchers shoot potatoes apparently. And with the recent change to the damage models. It feels extremely inconsistent. I don’t know how many times I have shot a tank on its back for it to not deal the extra damage and give me only a 250 hit. The AT mines are also absolutely useless and waste a slot. Tanks can literally go over a “pressure activated mine” if they going “slow” enough. Jeeps aren’t even affected by mines anymore. The whole point of mines is to deny an area from vehicles. But vehicles can literally just DRIVE OVER THEM. But no no, mines are also highlighted on the mini-map and on screen constantly so they’re already easy enough to avoid and the gunner can just vaporize them if he has the “disable mine” options. I mean seriously, how many nerfs and counters do mines need?! The acoustic mine is also horrendous. I don’t know how many times I’ve planted my mine in clear line of sight of the tank for it to pop up in the air and do NOTHING. It’s inconsistent when it comes to actually hitting the vehicles. AT, Slams, and acoustic mines are half of the engineer class and they’re worthless. AT rockets deal laughably small amounts of damage even when you hit them in the side or from the top down… you know.. WHERE ARMOR IS THE WEAKEST on a tank. Seriously? 180 damage from an RPG when shooting down onto a tank? The repair tool also took a nerf, making it pointless for multiple engineers to work on a single tank. I’m sorry but if 3 engineers want to back a tank. Then that tank should be indestructible. But no, let’s not reward teamwork by nerfing the repair tool. The EOD bot and Vehicle Supply Crate are okay and actually work just fine. But have a very limited use. Oh also the anti-tank grenade just outright sucks. Why does it have a parachute? It goes like 10 feet before it just falls straight down. I know it’s designed to hit a tank from the top.. you know.. WHERE THE ARMOR IS THE WEAKEST. But it doesnt matter because the AT grenade does the same damage no matter where it lands. So why even have the parachute on there? Why can’t the AT grenades just act like AT grenades from past battlefields? Why don’t any of these gadgets work like past battlefields??

Oh and I also don’t know why DICE is so scared of making any explosive in this game good. The AT grenade does 17 damage to infantry.. even tho it’s literally high explosive. The RPG can’t even ground blast infantry anymore and the blast area on impact is laughable. Can’t hit anyone behind cover. Claymores only detonate when “sprinting.” C4 is weak against vehicles and infantry, regular grenades are eh and either hit or miss. The grenade launcher can’t even ground blast infantry consistently even tho that’s literally what that gadget is made for. Mortars are pitiful. HE in vehicles are the worst option to pick. It’s easier to pick AP rounds and get direct hits with them…

Everything in this game feels terrible, it’s not fun, and quite frankly I’m tired of playing it. I can tear this game apart all night but I don’t really want to have to type out a 50 page document going over all the wrong things DICE has done with the game. DICE should be more self aware and make the game for the players. Not whatever thought process of “balancing” they are on. Stop restricting players game styles, make gadgets fun and useful, and STOP NERFING EVERYTHING.

I don't think this is true. Here's a list of all the gadgets that are good:

    • High Explosive Launcher
    • Assault Ladder
    • Spawn Beacon

Assault probably has the least amount of good gadgets, but the HE Launcher is really good (unfortunately for everyone) and the Spawn Beacon is absolutely in contention for the best gadget in the game. The Ladder is great, most people are just bad with it.

    • LAW
    • RPG
    • Javelin
    • Aim-guided Launcher
    • IGLA
    • Supply Crate

The mines are in kind of a bad spot, but I find that using the Acoustic Sensor mine aggressively is very fun.

    • Defib
    • Grenade Intercept
    • Missile Intercept
    • Mortar (unfortunately)
    • Smoke launcher
    • Airburst Launcher
    • Deployable Cover
    • Supply Pouch

That is every support gadget, btw. The weakest is probably the airburst launcher, but it is still good and also incredibly obnoxious.

    • Laser Designator
    • Recon Drone
    • Tracer Dart
    • Claymore
    • Decoy
    • C-4
    • Jammer

They need to buff the suppression again, imo, but that's almost every Recon gadget.

I think if you genuinely believe all the gadgets are bad, you probably are just kinda bad.

Yes, it reeked of opinionated skill issue.

Yes, you’re right. It’s skill issue and not a game design issue. It’s crazy that I can look at past battlefields and see where gadgets worked just fine. And see that they all had a use. And look at them now in BF6 and see all the unnecessary nerfs gadgets took to “balance” the game and making a majority of them useless. The game does not reward creativity or having fun.

    • High Explosive Launcher: Inconsistent with a small blast radius even tho its made for room clearing. I have many times hit someone’s feet or even directly hit them to deal 60 damage.
    • Assault Ladder: Has way too many areas around the maps where you can’t deploy it for no reason at all taking away player freedom.
    • Spawn Beacon:  Really hard to mess something like this up. But I swear no matter which way I face when I plant it. It spawns me facing a wall.
    • Incendiary Shotgun - Better luck with the HE launcher.
    • Thermal Launcher - Better luck with the HE launcher.
    • Breaching Projectile - legitimately have never seen a single person use this. I’ve tried using it, and it has such a niche use. I’ve never been able to hit someone in cover with this and would much rather just run a stun grenade on the side and run a different gadget. Better luck with the HE launcher.
    • Sling - Only huge downside with it is that you take in less ammo for each weapon and can run out very quickly. Wouldn’t be so bad if support players actually threw support bags in the ground.
    • Adrenaline - I’m glad it doesn’t instantly heal, because that would be extremely OP and takes away any team play. But I don’t use it.. like ever. The benefits are not worth the 2 second animation it comes with.

    • AT rockets: Extremely inconsistent damage output. Never know what you’re gonna get when you hit a tank. Extremely weak against infantry. Tell me why a JLTV/MRAP can tank 4 shots from an RPG now?  It should be a step ahead of a jeep. Not on the same level as an IFV.
    • AA Rockets: Probably the MOST useless gadgets in this game. Any decent pilot makes AA rockets pointless to use. Easily countered with flares, terrible flight paths that like to hook straight into the ground after launching, terrible range, and can’t lock under a certain height. Better chance shooting down crap with the wire guided. Goes for the AA tank took.
    • EOD Bot - Works fine, but another niche gadget that’s doesn’t really have a use. Again if the repair tool wasn’t already on my class at all times. Then yes it would make sense to have an EOD bot. But since I have a repair tool and I can just pick up mines off the ground. It kind of negates the point of having a bot.
    • Vehicle Supply Crate - works just fine, but not many use them. And honestly, I believe it’s the most under utilized gadget out there. Since mines are actually worthless. Players should be running supplies for vehicles.
    • AT Mines - I won’t cover them again. Made my point very clear on them in the original post
    • Repair Tool - Did not need a nerf like stated in original post. If a team is working to keep a tank alive. Then that tank should theoretically be invincible. Or or.. maybe.. the enemy team could just idk.. do the same? Flank the engineers repairing? Launch more rockets at it?

    • Defib: Honestly is fine. The sprint while refining is great. But, I don’t really know why it needed a “recharge” attached to it. They swore that in past battlefields defibs had a recharge but when I go back and play 4 on Op Locker. I can pump revives infinitely.
    • Grenade and Missile Intercept: These should not have only one charge. I’d argue the missile interceptor is way worse out of the two. When would I ever want to use that? People aren’t launching rockets at me since they suck against infantry. Jets are busy bombing vehicles, and helicopters have multiple rockets and just end up obliterating you regardless. Oh, and making it to where you can’t place them next to a mortar is taking away player freedom. Something that past BF titles didn’t do. If me and my buddies want to make a little fort out of mortars, grenade intercepts, and shield walls. We should 100% be allowed to do so. But again, DICE likes to take away anything creative or fun. And if you want to cry and say “but but but..” just take a Recon drone there.
    • Mortar: Thing is absolutely dog water. Sure it got the buff of being able to go in spawn. Which I disagree with. It promotes camping in spawn like how vehicles already do. But the HE mortar is laughable in all ways. A direct hit from a mortar should be an instant kill. It’s already inaccurate as is, so why reward a player with 60 damage with a direct hit? That’s not fun. A few days ago, a player was raining my position with mortars. I didn’t move, he didn’t kill me, because my supply bag was healing me faster than his mortars were damaging me. Again, it’s another gadget made to clear areas of infantry that doesn’t because it shoots potatoes. And I guess there’s smoke shells? I don’t know, never seen anyone use it.
    • Smoke Launcher: Another thing that’s extremely hard to mess up. But I don’t use it, because why would I? I have handheld smoke grenades on support that can be replenished quicker. Also, I could use that other gadget slot for something else. The smoke launcher would be better fit for the assault class so that they can smoke out a position and assault it.
    • Airburst: I’ve used this thing a few times and have no idea how to change the air burst distance. I’ve checked the settings and have found nothing. So enlighten me if you know. But if it’s actually just 25 meters. Then no wonder no one uses it. You can’t use it for its intended role because you have to be “exactly” 25 meters for it to burst where you need it to. And 25 meters is such an extremely short distance. Even for these small maps. Again, why can’t it be like past battlefield titles where the air burst is an automatic sensor that detonates when it gets near a target/object? Why is it set at 25 meters? At least give it adjustable ranges like snipers. Also, why is this a support gadget? This and the smoke launcher have more reasons being an assault gadget than a support.
    • Deployable Cover: Hard one to mess up, but I think this one is in a good place. I like how it can be restored with the repair tool. Would much rather have this over any of the trophy systems.
    • Supply Pouch: I honestly don’t understand why this is in game when the supply crate is on all support classes. It’s another gadget wasting a spot because I have a better version already given to me. The only upside to it is the instant healing and being able to be thrown to someone in cover. But with how fast the game plays. I could just chunk a supply crate to someone where they can replenish health, ammo, and gadgets in comparison to the pouch. It felt better in past titles because you could pick and choose which supply you wanted to run.
    • Supply Crate - Works great, and does everything it should do. Kinda wish when you “picked up” the crate. That it would instantly recharge it instead of you waiting. Kinda no point to have the option to pick it up.

    • Laser Designator - Great in all regards, does exactly what it needs to do.
    • Recon Drone - Also great at doing recon things. But when attaching c4 to it? The method is extremely niche since the battery life is near 10 seconds. Like great, I can take off and move 25 feet before it blows up. What am I supposed to do with that? If you get snuck up on by a recon drone. That is your fault, those things are extremely loud and easily shot down. The drone already takes a movement penalty when c4 is attached. So why give it a time penalty? Another thing that sounds like it would be fun to use, but the way it’s implemented makes it useless. Don’t show it in the trailer of the game if you don’t want players doing that.
    • Tracer Dart: A worse version of the laser designator. Don’t know why you want to use something you have to physically hit a target with. When you could just pull out your laser designator and paint a target in a second. Another gadget that just wastes a slot when something better is offered. And it can’t spot enemies like the designator.
    • Claymore: A gadget used for area denial… but you can just walk right on by if you’d like to. It being only triggered by sprinting presents the same problem as AT mines. It’s already easily enough to counter since there are huge red lasers emitted from it. And running the jammer now makes it even easier to move by.
    • Sniper Decoy - Honestly, great gadget. Does exactly what it needs to do.
    • C4 - The biggest disappointment of the game. Jeep stuff is no longer useful on jeeps. I’ve entirely stopped using it to ram tanks after it wouldn’t kill them. I know that it can. Because there have been a few times that I killed a full health tank. But more times than not, it just tickles their health. It’s great for cover destruction (as it should be), but here we go again. It absolutely sucks against infantry. If the c4 isn’t laying directly under an enemies foot. Then you best believe you either get an “enemy suppression” or 40 damage. Even attached to recon drones, I’ve been able to get it near any enemy for it deal 0 damage.. another High explosive gadget that’s not good at exploding things. Tell me, how does 3 C4 on a little bird deal 150 damage?
    • Suppression system - niche gadget that works okay? The range on it kinda sucks and sometimes it will destroy gadgets through walls and then sometimes it won’t.. I don’t know. I’d much rather run the jammer.
    • Jammer - Works how it should work. No complaints there. But it’s new, so I know a nerf will come for it.
    • TUGS - Hate how it auto deploys when I click the button. But other than that, works just fine.

Oh and, usually the once’s screaming skill issue, are the ones with a skill issue. Keep boot licking bucko
