It sucks because in this game the only way to defend yourself against a jet behins you is to do exactly what you said, run to the base and hope the base AA takes out the jet on your tail. If you start turning, youre giving them an easy shot and because of the extremely short TTK youre dead 90% of the time, 100 if youre in an attack jet and the enemy is in a fighter. The only other thing you can try is to make them overshoot by killing your speed which is also unreliable because od the TTK. So unfortunately your best bet is running to your base. They really need to make speed control more important and make the TTK longer.
