They're going to find ways to monetize the game, I'd rather it be something I don't really notice unless I chose to participate in. Plus, people that are willing to spend money on skins will fund development, hopefully that's where it mostly goes.
So enemies having weapon skins, charms hanging off their weapon, can you even see that in game without inspecting it in your own hands? For me, I don't really get it, but some people are into that type of thing. The benefit to us is that it can fund the game and it's servers without taking away from the visuals if kept in check.
I agree that things should be kept a lot more grounded though. Also, keep in mind, 3d modelers and core game play loop developers are different departments. Someone making assets isn't taking away from other parts of development. They're completely different skill sets. Having more people work on the same aspect of a game doesn't always increase efficiently either.
