Camping jet spawns with other jets
On some maps such as Operation Firestorm, one jet can spawn camp the other jets. AA doesn't really help either, as both runways are near mountains, i.e. air cover. The way it works is:
- Enemy jet hangs behind enemy runway. Not their spawn, but behind the enemy spawn.
- Once jet spawns on runway, enemy jet swoops in and uses gun to spawn kill
- Even if enemy jet is locked on from max radar range, flares provide enough time for the enemy jet to spawn kill a slow/low target and also escape before a second lock can be achieved, or other weapons done.
- This process is repeated
There are several counters, though the dedicated AA tank isn't one of them; it cannot effectively use its long range (~750m) locking missile, and its guns do not do enough DPS within the brief moment the enemy jet is within range to kill it. These counters may involve multiple teammates, which seems odd to fight off one enemy jet in your own air spawn.
In this scenario, assuming zero friendly jets are available, the next best option is an attack helicopter to spec AA and fly around the mountain cover.
Jet's don't typically win games singlehandedly, so having no jets isn't a huge deal normally, it is however frustrating.
Don't know how to fix this. The home base AA turret doesn't help much, don't think it destroys enemy jet gun cannons though I do think it destroys missiles and dropped bombs. It also does not fire at enemy jets within a reasonable range, at least on one spawn side.
Maybe out-of-bounds more area behind home bases or remove/flatten the landscape behind spawn so that AA can engage and not have LoS blocked. Right now, its only use is usually to provide cover for enemy air vehicles; there is already a mountain in front to use as cover, why have one in the rear also. Force air vehicles to loiter in either neutral areas off to the sides, or if they want the position behind the enemy team spawn, risk AA.
