Concerns About the Blackwell Fields Map Rework
I’m deeply concerned after hearing about the planned rework of Blackwell Fields. The reason is that, among all the maps currently in the game, this is almost the only one where natural cooperation between players consistently creates a frontline, leading to matches where teams genuinely push and pull against each other across that line.
On most other maps, frontlines are either extremely rare or practically impossible to establish because of issues such as an odd number of capture points (which prevents ticket drain from balancing out), excessive flank routes (like the dense building layout in Empire State), or extreme and poorly accessible sniper positions on high ground (such as the buildings in New Sobek or the mountain in Liberation Peak).
I understand that there is a general design trend toward avoiding stalemates. However, a certain degree of stagnation — and the process of overcoming it through squad or team coordination — is one of the core pleasures of large-scale multiplayer games. In other words, some amount of resistance and deadlock is necessary for players to feel a sense of solidarity and cooperation with a large group of teammates.
The small aircraft combat area is certainly an issue, but I cannot agree with the commonly suggested idea of simply making the map larger. Realistically, the current size already feels close to the upper limit for allowing 32 random players to naturally form and maintain a coherent frontline.
Contaminated is actually a very well-designed larger outdoor map and one of the strongest additions from Season 2, but the kind of gameplay it provides is fundamentally different from what Blackwell Fields offers.
At the very least, I believe Blackwell Fields should not be significantly changed until another map capable of delivering a similar experience has been introduced.
