We all know why there's an equal number of female soldiers compared to male soldiers. It's because there's a non-negligible minority of players/employees that feel like representation matters. Either EA believes this is important, or they want to remove any chance of controversy it might have lead to if they didn't include women. It's essentially just playing it safe.
In my opinion, it really isn't about women in the first place. It's about an accurate and immersive portrayal of a war. I don't want to see people wearing Santa Claus suits or 64 copies of hero characters like the specialists in 2042. Battlefield isn't Battlefront II either, where the entire aesthetic comes straight from the Star Wars franchise.
The aesthetic of Battlefield works best when you're in a large sandbox, with tons of soldiers, tanks, helicopters and planes all moving forward together, without anyone standing out. This means that a soldier is supposed to be just one cog in a well oiled machine.
As long as women, just like the men don't particularly stand out, I don't really mind it all that much. That means shaven heads, proper military attire and a proper attitude that matches the cruelty of what is known as war. I don't want those cheesy one liners from 2042 to ever come back.
The only thing that's worth mentioning is that most armies in the world have only a relatively small percentage of women in active service and even fewer of those participate in active combat roles. There are many different reasons for that, but it's certainly not primarily because of misogynism. So, it's noticeably inaccurate to portray a modern game like that.
