A buddy was working to unlock the CZ. Ran out of time and decided to purchase the gun. 18$. He’s stuck with the default gun attachment. Is there a way he can unlock the base gun so he can change out attachments or is he stuck? Pretty crappy if he can’t change attachments with a purchased gun. 18$….

I think at minimum a disclaimer needs to be presented to the client before the purchase. Ideally if a gun is purchased, base gun is automatically unlock.
I agree with that, as I can easily see how it's not immediately apparent that the package won't unlock the main gun when it involves a weapon that hasn't been unlocked through a Battlepass season or event. I don't think it's an issue with the guns that came with the game by default, as they're a bit more accessible. While I can't make any promises that changes will happen, after I've confirmed tonight that there isn't a disclaimer already, I'll pass feedback along that it'd be helpful if one was added.

I suspect the reason for this is that it's a weapon package that has been purchased, not the base weapon. Unfortunately, it's not possible to change attachments on weapon packages until the main weapon itself is unlocked. The gun will be made available to unlock via challenges eventually, as was the case with the Season 1 weapons, but this may not happen until Season 2 has ended, unfortunately.
