Dear DICE: I have some suggestions about Portal.
Hi all,
Huge BF veteran and fan here. playing non-stop pretty much every title in PC since Battlefield 2, but mainly Bad Company 2, BF3, and BF4.
I'd like to start by saying I absolutely love BF6. I think it's a big step in the right direction since 2042, and there are so many wonderful things about this as a series installment in general.
However, I think that BF6 has a lot less of the "community" feeling that the other games had. From Battlefield 2 until BF4, the server browser, among other things, gave the game a sense of a close, tight community that I struggle to find these days. I often played at the same servers, at the same time, and often with the same people. this felt great.
I was pleased to see that we have a server browser in Portal, exactly like we had in 2042 - and I often played this exact same way, with this exact same sense of community in 2042. I don't understand why portal and the server browser is so badly used in BF6 - I often go through the server browser just to see if there are any experiences hosted in my area (south america) with people playing, and there never are any. This is not due to a lack of players, since in the regular multiplayer I'm always playing full (no bots) 64-player lobbies.
My first suggestion here would be a single server browser for both regular (persistent) lobbies and portal experiences. If people used the server browser to navigate and enter games, this would mean:
- more concentrated lobbies, with less "bot-filled" matches, since I have the feeling that there are often many half filled lobbies which could be unified;
- more focus on the portal experiences, which I feel people usually don't even remember is an option.
My second suggestion, and this is the bigger one - PLEASE try if it's possible to integrate some of the portal experiences in the base game.
I recently played "Gulf Of Lyndon" in Portal, a gulf of Oman inspired map on the Downtown area of the Redsec map. it was absolutely amazing, even with a lot of bugs due to it being an unofficial portal experience.
How hard is it to integrate this into the base game and multiplayer rotation? This would satisfy the biggest complain that a lot of older, veteran Battlefield players have - the original, big map, vehicle-based battlefield experience.
Don't get me wrong - I really like the new maps. I really like breakthrough, rush, and especially escalation, which is the BEST addition to battlefield since Rush in bad company.
But I honestly don't understand why we can't have both. Why can't Battlefield 6 also cater to this slice of the player base, which has been especially loyal for 15, 20 something years? I feel like there is so much wasted potential with Portal.
I'm sorry if many of these things are not viable technically speaking - I'm just a concerned fan. But after playing that Gulf of Lyndon experience, I felt I actually played Battlefield 6 for the first time.
Lots of love,
Marco
