Feedback on the state of maps

I have played over 110 hours in Battlefield 6 so far, and while this is something that is often brought up by the community, I really want to push for this to be seen by the devs. Maps are far too small and restricted compared to the game's scope, which focuses on large battles and the "All-Out War" theme.

General Player Complaints

  • “Current maps are too small, limiting the ability to create an 'epic' experience and a variety of strategic options that define Battlefield.”
  • “Most conquest maps feel like older Team Deathmatch maps and are much too small for 64 player matches.”
  • “Most maps are centered around close quarters infantry battles; these do not represent the "All-Out Warfare" that BF6 is supposed to deliver.”
  • “Fighter jets are cool as hell, but you hit the map boundaries every few seconds and have to fly back. The amount of airspace is also very limited.”
  • “No matter how big the maps are, most of them are designed with either small or medium scale battles in mind.”
  • “We already have smaller scale modes; why wouldn't we want our Conquest maps to be large and open?”

These complaints summarize what many of us are experiencing: the maps may look vast, but the areas where we can engage in battle are limited and do not reflect what the BF series is known for.

Why It Is a Problem

BF has always focused on scale and the freedom of interaction between vehicles, infantry, and aircraft on vast maps. However, if the maps are too small, that focus is lost.

  • Vehicle combat becomes a confined and less tactical experience.
  • Air-to-air combat does not have enough room to breathe because of the map borders.
  • Infantry battles tend to become repetitive and confined to the same chokepoints.
  • Strategic movement and flanking become nearly pointless due to the predictability of the routes.

As such, BF6, while looking beautiful and having solid mechanics, is instead playing on smaller arenas rather than the expansive battlefields that set the BF series apart.

Blackwell Fields

Blackwell Fields is a good example of this. It is visually stunning with its vast open oil fields, an airbase, and ample space behind it, however when you're actually playing it feels very small.

You see a massive world surrounding you that you cannot utilize. There is very little area to maneuver with vehicles, infantry tends to get trapped or forced into tight routes, and aircraft cannot utilize the open sky effectively.

In appearance, it looks like a gigantic sandbox map, but in gameplay it acts like a compact map.

Final Thoughts

BF should be chaotic yet open, providing multiple avenues of engagement and the ability to decide your own method of engaging in a battle.

Right now, the maps appear to provide the right aesthetic, but they do not provide the right gameplay.

While the core of the game has a solid foundation (visuals, gunplay, and performance), revisiting and/or rewriting the map sizes and available playable zones will give back the classic BF experience that the community is clamoring for.

Please revisit the overall size of your maps and the available playable zones for each map, particularly Blackwell Field even Operation Firestorm. The community has clearly expressed a desire for the large-scale experience that defines Battlefield.
