Helicopters are terrible in 2042 and BF6, and this is why:
in 2042 and now again in BF6 helicopters feel absolutely terrible to fly, and I finally realised why.
Helicopters in real life have a linear throttle (collective) and it basically just gives it power from 0-100, at zero throttle there is no power and the helicopter falls out of the sky. Bf3, 4 and hardline (and probably earlier games) as far as I remember didn't even use the bottom half of the stick on a controller to control helicopter throttle. Center stick was zero and the helicopter would fall, and then you would push up to apply throttle and you would hold it roughly 50% to hover depending on velocity and such.
In 2042 and BF6 this isn't the case. The throttle is -100 through 100 and center stick is zero, but now zero is "enough power to hover" anything above 0 is increased throttle, and anything below zero is negative throttle. Helicopters don't have negative throttle, you can't apply some sort of magical negative force to a helicopter to make it go down, that's what gravity is.
I have helicopter assists turned off, but the helicopter still acts like it's on. The throttle controls on the stick are disabled with assist on, and the assist buttons do exactly the same thing as the throttle does with it off. With Assists off, the assist buttons are disabled and the throttle does it. There is literally no difference.
It took me this long to realise that's why helicopters are terrible in these 2 games, it's literally GTA 5 helicopters. Dice PLEASE FIX.
The throttle should not act like this with assists turned off. I get making it arcadey for those people who like crappy GTA5 helicopter physics, but there is no reason why we can't have both, the game mechanics already support it.
