Hey man, I totally agree with everything you are saying. I ultimately think the Stingers are the biggest problem for the attack choppers right now. The fact that it only takes one Stinger missile to take down an Apache is insane. The fact that a highly-skilled pilot can get easily shot down by a random engineer with a stinger (not to mention he was probably carrying an RPG as well) is insane. It's one thing for a group of engineers with stingers to coordinate an effort to take down an attack chopper (which is fair), while it is another thing for one person to simply pull their stinger out and take the chopper down. If the developers are going to make it a one-shot kill, then they need to desperately decrease the time to deploy flares each time or something.
The Apache is in a place right now where even super highly-skilled pilots can't even last in the sky for that long. There's clearly something wrong with anti-air at the moment, and it needs to be adjusted.
Also, I am curious about your thoughts on potentially bringing back the cockpit POV in the gunner's seat. It was a great feature from BF3 & BF4 for the purpose of spotting targets and having a great sense of situational awareness. Right now, in the gunner's seat, you can only see the view of what the turret is viewing. I would like the option to also have the POV of the gunner in the cockpit like in the old games. What do you think?
BF3 Apache was about as good as I can remember. I didn't have any complaints then. That said, the maps were huge, there were still AA threats from vehicles and players but flying smart was enjoyable and the balance from vehicles and infantry seemed polished and well thought out. Yes, I really liked the gunner POV, that was a nice touch and flying the Huey sideways into an objective while the minigunner was mowing down people was great fun. Maybe its just stuffing everything and everyone into these smaller, new hot dog shaped maps where AA can reach from one end to the other that is really the issue.
For the record, I play just as good as infantry or in an APC or tank as I do in a heli. Like a lot of other people I could have went nuts with criticizing other issues, like the lack of RPG and C4 damage, tanks in these tiny "large-scale" maps getting obliterated in seconds. Overall, I think spreading out on larger maps will help and I really liked BF6. I didn't want to be too critical of the beta, knowing changes would be made before release. However, to me, being a well-seasoned player in all aspects of the game, one glaringly obvious issue was the heli/flight characteristics/AA/toughness/weapon damage models, etc. A lot of it is just wrong.
I know Dice knows what I'm talking about, all you have to do is play 2042 with the newly released A-10. That thing is a monster and I've already seen a few good pilots terrorizing the battlefield (including me in a heli, in a tank or as infantry). The gun destroys almost everything and the other weapons are devastating. EXACTLY what I'd expect from an A-10 on the battlefield.
Maybe I just prefer that everything be modeled and playable a little closer to realistic. The graphics are amazing and make it "seem" like real-world. Might as well be animated at this point if you re going to give a single infantry a LMG, 3 stingers, 3 RPGS with launcher, the rest of the gear and let them run around at full speed, jumping and sliding, etc. its a little ridiculous (even when I'm the infantry).
