Mortar are worthless in this game

so i just got the Mortar and been using it just to check it out and all i can say is they are worthless in this game have to get too close to objective to use them which leave me open to attacks and i mostly use it to attack the snipers that get on top of the buildings but i can't even to that because like i said have to get way to close to use them and just wondering if EA can just allow me to use it a little father back into my zone to counter all the snipers on the roofs
