Optic Accessory (Canted Sights) Usage Flow
To the devs:
Hello!
Loving the game! It's a lot of work to create a game of this magnitude -- kudos, seriously. 👍
It would be great if the developers could implement a new way of switching from Main Sights (ie. Zoomed Optics) to the Optic Accessory (Canted Sights).
Currently, when I'm sprinting to a Point, I'll have my main optic at the ready. When I reach close to the Point (say, an enclosed building), I want to switch to my canted reflex for CQ fighting before reaching the location. However, in order to switch to the Optic Accessory, I must first ADS, and then switch the optic.
This drastically slows the flow of sprinting (to an objective or whatnot), as needing to ADS almost stops the Player in their tracks. After the optic has been switched to the canted sight (iron or reflex), Player must then resume their sprint. 😓
If possible, here is what I propose:
Problem: Switching to Optic Accessory while sprinting requires Player to ADS in order to switch optics. The order of operations is: Press Sprint keybind > Hold ADS key/mousebind > Press Optic Accessory keybind > Release ADS > Press Sprint keybind again. The flow of gameplay urgency and speed is interrupted by this.
Proposed Solution: Give Player the ability to swap between main optic and Optic Accessory at any time, even when not in ADS state. Since the weapon is mostly off-screen, diegetically showing the switch between main optic and Optic Accessory is not possible. The current selected optic could be shown with UI icons and switch between the two with UI feedback.
The game "Insurgency Sandstorm" allows switching between main optic and canted optic without needing to ADS and it really improves gameplay. What Insurgency doesn't do is show Player which sight is currently active. My proposal above both allows swapping optics at any time, as well as show the Player which optic is current.
What do you think?
