Seriously, this is a joke, right?
DMRs are supposed to be medium to long range weapons yet the VSSM is easily one of the worst for this. It's forced subsonic and among the lowest bullet velocity in the game and the damage falloff is attrocious.
This is 100% an SMG that you're forced to use single shot, or spend 40 attachment points just to bring to it's regular form as an SMG with recoil so wild it's garbage passed 20m.
Update:
I have now unlocked the level 15 full auto mode. This settles it, this gun is meant as a short range carbine and not an DMR. It is the the wrong category.
DMR/single fire mode is just bad because of the damage model
Yes this weapon makes no sense as a DMR with this damage model.
It is a close range weapon that I have to hurt my trigger finger muscles for to unlock its full auto mode only to make it into what is essentially another SCW-10 with allegedly worse recoil.
There is not a single sitation where it would be better to use than a different DMR or SMG.
Is it time to finally have that discussion about how unreasonable some attachment costs are?
Putting the VSSM in the DMR category is stupid, but you are slightly off about what the weapon is. It is not an SMG, A standard SMG fires a tiny 9x19mm pistol cartridge. The VSS fires a massive 9x39mm rifle round. It is literally an AK-47 armour-piercing slug that weighs more than double what an SMG fires. it's basically a specialized assault rifle.
If they had just put this in the Assault Rifle category and given it full-auto by default, people would be a little happier about it maybe.
