Re: BF6 Needs A Server Browser

Hello. As the title says, i think bf6 needs a server browser. It will add longevity to the gane. The only reason i still play bf5 is because theres a server browser and i can pick which server me and my friends join. Matchmaking still works but on bf5 if we matchmake it makes a game with 6 people in it that never starts. I just had to get my opinion out there. Thanks.

The longest, most popular thread in the BF2042 forums was about the Server Browser. There must be some technical challenge or investment that they are not willing to undertake with a Server Browser in the main game.

From what we know, they create a single instance per round after matching-making pools the players into that instance. After the round is over, all they do is requeue everyone and start the entire process all over again with a new instance. This prevents any wasted use of external services like AWS, which is what they use.

So we may never see a Server Browser again. However, if they added filters to the launch menu for map and ping, that would be a start. Then they need an option to "stay on same team" after a round, instead of just with squad.

I get this, but me and my mates enjoy playing against each other too. Bit of competition. Anything post BF4 took this away. (exc hardline)

Trust me, I want a Server Browser, I just don't think they will go that route because of how they have employed their backend infrastructure.  It would come with a whole slew of technical challenges that I don't think they are willing to commit to.

Back in previous titles, there were dedicated EA Servers, physical servers, hosting the games. They are now fully in AWS. So every round is a new server instance spun up virtually. At the end of the round, that thing is gone.

They definitely need to do something, because there is zero continuity between rounds. They are all just random messes right now.

They definitely can host their own servers through WSL / their own dedicated servers, independently from AWS. No way they only develop the game through connecting to AWS instances, that would be way too expensive with the amount of people they have working on this.

Licensing and agreements could be a problem, but that immediately would stop being a problem if people decided to boycott the game en mass, unless there is a server browser and dedicated servers, because money speaks at the end of the day. Unfortunately someone at EA or Dice decided that SBMM and no server browser is the way to go and they gaslighted everyone else into believing that that portal server browser is the same.

Just add a server browser It's so simple but they refuse to do it, they will give every excuse they can find to avoid it and this game will be regional locked like 2042 meaning the game will be dead in certain regions in 6 months unfortunately that's the reality they want!
