Reload a 100% Full Mag after Emptying a Clip instead of Skipping the Last Bullet

Reloading an empty clip on magazine style weapons does not fully reload and skips the last bullet, causing you to have to reload again immediately to get the last bullet too. I was told by Florian on X that this is intentional, but why? I don't want to reload twice for a full mag after emptying it.

  • It's intentional because that's how firearms work in real life.

When you reload a totally empty weapon with a magazine capacity of 30, there's no round in the chamber. You only have 30 rounds. Your soldier will then play the animation of racking the charging handle or dropping the bolt which pulls a round from the magazine and loads it into the chamber.

When you reload a partially empty weapon, meaning 1 round is still in the chamber, you get 31 rounds. No animation is played for the charging handle or dropping the bolt. You just put a fresh mag in. That's why a partial reload is faster than an empty reload.

When you reload an empty weapon with a 30 round mag and then drop the bolt or use the charging handle to chamber a round, you now have 29 rounds in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. Reloading again will give you 31 rounds, 30 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber.
