EA should make a fully-fledged conquest mode (Big... I mean, normal maps like Golmud Railway and Gulf of Oman xDDD), and compartmentalize parts of the maps for smaller CQB game modes. There is no need to cut corners for the Conquest/Escalation game mode. I think for the escalation game mode, the maps could be even bigger because the frontline moves. I truly like slow play and intense late-game.
Prevent the commander from entering vehicles, leave him at the safe base, or redeploy him there behind a command screen. Add a separate voice comm between the commander and squad leaders, and enlarge squads up to 6 players.
Battle Royale lobby for 4 players is fine. CQB game modes without a commander role are totally fine. But Conquest needs some old technology and approach to be remotely fun.
The maps might be bigger if the Squad Leader knows his role and may redeploy the rally beacon and give orders. With commander vehicle drops and supply drops, the game is fun as hell. But, devs have to explain functions in a tutorial... playerbase nowadays needs tutorials.
I would remove mortar as a gadget and place one stationary in the safe base that may easily reach 1 flag, or make a vehicle as a mobile mortar, which can be identified and destroyed as in BF1.
