I keep seeing the reason for the Portal xp being removed is too many bot farming servers.
Why is it bad to farm bots for attachments, I don't understand.
People are getting unlocks faster? So. Why does anyone care.
People have higher K/D's on their profile? So. Why does anyone care? Stop bots from counting as kills, easy fix.
There is obviously a reason people are bot farming, and THAT seems to be the issue: Insanely long grind to unlock attachments for each weapon, which is how you build guns for competitive play.
Remove the need for bot farming, and you significantly reduce the server issue.
Just removing the bot farms will significantly reduce your player base.
It’s honestly ironic that some players join multiplayer to play against bots. The whole point of multiplayer is to compete against real people, to measure your skill against others who are trying just as hard. I’ve never understood the logic that if something is difficult, it should be cheated. Difficulty is what gives progression meaning.
Older Battlefield players will remember that farming used to be bannable. In Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3, players who farmed kills or stats were punished because it went against the entire spirit of fair play. Stats are meant to represent your actual skill and experience.
Bots have no place in multiplayer environments.

It's not ironic, I can help you out there.
People play multiplayer to either play against other humans like you, with other humans, or with and against other humans.
The point of multiplayer for everyone is to have fun. Those like you only enjoy measuring your skill against others in a game like this. Other people enjoy playing with their friends, against others for the same reason as you, or against bots for a more relaxed game. Bots absolutely have a place is multiplayer, just not your multiplayer environments, but no one is trying to force you to play against bots. Difficulty is what gives your progression meaning, not everyones.
If progression meant increasing your level and unlocking cosmetics(to flex or whatever), and improving your stats like k/d, I'd agree with you.
Unfortunately weapon attachments(and to a lesser extend weapons/gadgets), make a massive different in weapon strength, and if everyone isn't on an even playing field, it is literally not fair. It should be skill vs skill, gear power shouldn't come into it in BF.I agree with your points for stats, but not for attachment unlocks. If everyone in your games got their weapons/attachments from farming bots, how is that bad for you? Someone playing bots doesn't affect your matches.
I can see you hate bots, but I don't understand why others liking playing against bots affects your game at all. It's not cheating, it was literally advertised as a feature for the game.- R1ckyDaMan1915 days agoSeasoned Ace
You must of really enjoyed bf3 to bf5.

But the same goes for the point:
When person A got 1 hour a day is playing against person B with 4 hours a day.
B will have more attachments and going to laser A.
So whats is exactly the problem here, when person A hosting a standard lobby with a passwort, with bots which giving you 50% xp or 10% (like they already did before the newest changes) and the person still need more time to get to the same attachment level?
Explain it to why dice need to threat "A" persons like the guys who were totally abusing it?- Ugganaut15 days agoSeasoned Hotshot
I got a bit lost there sorry.
Yes, if person A plays less than B, B will laser A if they are same skill level/circumstances. It's an unfair advantage for the person with the attachments they want for their build.
Some people can play all day everyday in pvp and gain all their attachments. Casual players like person A trying to level weapons against those players is at a big disadvantage - they get killed more often, more time dead means less time killing, less killing means less weapon progression(kills and assists). And if you decide to try different guns, the gap gets bigger.
When Portal gave full XP, it puts everyone on essentially the same footing - everyone has a way to grind out weapon attachments at a decent speed, either playing pvp as a full time job, or part time bot servers. Neither affects the others game.
If it doesn't affect another persons game, I don't see how it's abuse/cheating, except from those that only want unlocks the way they got them for some ego driven reason from my limited understanding.

As I recall, Battlefield 3 and 4 allowed you to buy shortcut kits, which opened up full access to weapons, gadgets, and weapons. Whether you buy these kits or play with friends on 'bot' servers, you're still leveling the playing field, gear wise.
- Ugganaut15 days agoSeasoned Hotshot
Agreed, it should be skill vs skill, gear should be the same(or easy to attain)
If people want progression, make it titles and cosmetics, something that doesn't affect "power" in a match.

There are so many variables here though. Multiplayer is meant to be fun. Before widespread internet connection, multiplayer was introduced to play with friends, in the same room. I would appreciate the portal to have 10-30 of my friends list, in the same room, against each other, having fun.
I don't have an issue with K/D ratios, bots or no bots. The issue is, they advertised normal progression in portal, playing tailored matches for you and friends. They took it away. Rather than fixing the real problem of not having enough server space.
If the matchmaking was better, the people who are farming for a high K/D, will just get shown up in the "real" experience. Same as if matchmaking is based on the player rank. If it's all farmed XP, you'll have an easy time.
What they have done is backwards. It wouldn't be such a backlash, if it was the other way round. I somewhat agree. If it has to be done, remove the ranking for soldier but allow the weapon progression. My honest opinion is just leave it how it was. It doesn't affect your gameplay. They could fix some other, more pertinent issues instead.
Cheating, Map/mechanic abuse. The console only cross play. Other bugs, misinformation that isn't listed here.

BB-Knight89, I remember my first LAN party :) I actually got introduced to BF at a LAN party.
Matchmaking is a problem, though I don't know what the solution is. Four friends want to squad up, one might be new and another way above their skill level - hard to get a fair match going and still keep that group together. So I think they try to match a wide range of skill levels within each match, although I'm not sure their reason is to keep squads of friends together.
I've said it before, I think the solution is remove weapon progression completely, and watch the servers free up. My friends and I probably wouldn't have played against bots yet except when we realized the ridiculous grinding for weapons/challenges(for guns).
If you also stopped bot kills from counting toward your profile stats, I think everyone would be happy.- BB-Knight8914 days agoSeasoned Traveler
I still remember arguing over screenwatching on N64 Goledeneye. We were all playing on the same television set.
Then I remember on the ps2, think it was called a multitap? so you could conect 4 controllers instead of 2. then the original x-box came with 4 connections as standard.
It can feel a bit one sided sometimes but that's just battlefield. What I'm trying to say is, regardless of progression. Soldier or Weapons. It will still largely be about skill. You will have rank 8 killing rank 60. I don't think that's an issue.
It's not the worst idea i've seen, removing the weapon progression altogether. I do like the sense of achievement it brings. As you say, some of those challenges are insane and some players will never get there.
My biggest gripe is they advertised the verified portal mode, with standard progression but then remove it after the refund window passed. That's not dealing with the main issue, it's a blanket fix and actually punishes certain player groups.
What makes it worse, you would have played against bots, because even in the standard servers I'm encountering a fair few. so it's ok for their servers to have them with standard progression but we can't.
It's unususal for me to have many friends but I'm part of a group, Friends of friends etc. We can be in discord or PS party, anywhere from 6 to 25 of us online at one time. Mainly UK and US. To have us all playing in the same game, even on either team, without Portal, is very difficuly. If there's 8 or so, even that can be a challenge. You can enter room as squad of 4, then split. If there are bots in that room you can have friends piggy back into the server. It doesn't feel quite right or genuine to do this. The portal method would and should have been great, they just needed to address the server space. They should appreciate that people want to play their own way. People complained, other people were having fun, they listened to the noise of complainers without appreciating the quiet ones who were just in there having a blast. Now I'm on forums and searching for information, eating away at play time. I appreciate the majority of this community.
Much Respect to you.

That's true, I remember a lot of players getting banned for stats padding with defibs in BF2 lol.

If You're intended to play With people good, your playing what yo paid for, BUT YOUR NOT EVERY PLAYER IN THE WORLD MY DUDE, some other people find fun playing against bots unlocking stuff and being happy, they PAID FOR A PORTAL FULL PROGRESSION AS THEY SAID IN THE REVIEWS, and what they want to do is not for you to say is good or no
They want something different that was promissed before the launch, and kill portal is not the answer, this will end like 2042, a game with 200 active players because no one want to grind in matches vs no life players
- TheWalrusNZL15 days agoRising Newcomer
I wholeheartedly agree with this - but what would you have those of us do in Oceania for instance, where (quite fairly I think) many people on PS5/XBox want to remain in console only lobbies?

The real ironic thing is that they created Portal, made it awesome (mostly), but then took away EVERYONE's interest in playing a portal server. Just because a server is custom, doesn't make it a farm. You can spend a week creating a custom map with no XP exploits, but no one will play it. Why? Because they don't want to be left behind. Daily and weekly challenges and unlocks make a progression seem necessary.
My biggest gripe with portal is that everything custom and cool is treated like a XP farm, even when it is not. Portal is completely worthless now, and they killed it themselves by taking a chainsaw to a problem that needed a knife.
