Forum Discussion
Hey EA / DICE team,
This is coming from a long-time Battlefield player — I’ve been here since Bad Company, through the highs and lows, always hoping you’d listen to the community. But what’s happening right now with Portal feels like a copy-paste repeat of how BF2042 lost its player base.
You’ve completely crippled Portal for casual and legit players — the people who just want to enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played. Instead of targeting the actual issue (the exploiters and XP farms), you’ve blanketed the entire mode, punishing everyone who’s done nothing wrong.
1. You Punished the Wrong People:
A small group of XP farmers abused Portal, and instead of properly moderating or removing those servers, you decided to restrict the whole system. Legit players who created fun, balanced modes, and casuals who just wanted a break from the chaos of base game — all pushed out because of lazy blanket restrictions.
That’s not game balance. That’s just convenience at the cost of creativity.
2. You’ve Killed What Made Portal Great:
Portal was supposed to be a space where players could build, experiment, and enjoy custom Battlefield experiences — something that kept the community alive between major updates. But now, what’s left?
You’ve stripped the incentives, limited progression, and turned it into a ghost town. The people who were keeping the game breathing are now gone because you failed to protect the feature from abusers without nuking it for everyone else.
3. You Ignored the Core Issue (Again):
This has been the story for years — rather than tackling the root of a problem, you keep applying blanket fixes that destroy the fun for the people still sticking around. We’ve seen it with weapon balance, XP farming, and now Portal.
Where’s the targeted moderation? Where’s the smarter fix that keeps Portal alive for the community that actually cares?
4. You’re Losing the Community That Still Cares:
The veterans, the casuals, the community creators — these are the people that carried Battlefield through its roughest years. And you’ve just told them their effort doesn’t matter. Portal wasn’t broken; it was abused by a small fraction of players. Instead of dealing with them, you punished everyone.
Final Thought:
Portal was one of the best things you’ve added in years — a feature that actually had potential to bring Battlefield back to life. But now, it’s been gutted by poor decisions and blanket fixes. You didn’t fix the problem — you buried it, and the community along with it.
If you want Battlefield to survive, stop punishing everyone for the actions of a few. Start listening to the players who’ve been here since the beginning.
Sincerely,
A Battlefield veteran who’s tired of watching history repeat itself.

agree with everything but one point, and that is the main issue being xp farmers. the main issue imo is the absurd amount of time to complete some of these challenges, which in turn create the environment of xp farming. Now, the xp farmers will simply find another way to exploit the system (they always do) and we the player-base will still suffer in someway or another. What they need to do is tune the challenges.

Agreed. Well, we don't matter. A very very small percentage of players abused something, which had no impact on the rest of us anyway. And enough people complained about the bot xp lobbies that had no impact on their own accounts.
I didn't care that some dude on reddit was boasting about his 20:1 KDR... He was only doing it to get people all tilted. Clearly succeeding. They posted everywhere because they knew it was the perfect bait to get people all bent. And it worked. But it didn't affect me in any way, shape, or form. So I just shrugged it off as your typical online troll.
EA clearly took it too personally.
As for the rest of us that were joining servers just to have a good time with our friends.... DICE just gave us all the finger.

Fortunately, I am still in time for a Paypal dispute and it is worth loosing an account to get my money back. Because after this I know what to expect going forward. More of this.

Completely agree Thanks to farmers no full xp how unfair ive been forced to play official servers since realese thanks to farmers & im getting tired of the sweats already im happy theres server space but now there's no point in playing portal zero progress in game
portal & private servers was the hole reason I purchased bf6 in the first place ... the majority of the players that want to create a ligit experiences shouldn't have to suffer due to the actions of a few it effects so many types of modes & play stlyes I hope portal will get full xp back at some point tbh ill probably quit playing if the xp nerf stays permanently
Negative Effects to players
Xp Nerft hardcore players
Xp Nerft relism players
Xp nerf max tickets servers
Xp nerf 24/7 maps servers
Xp nerf fast vechile spawn servers
Xp nerf for casual players or new players
Xp nerf for people with disabilities

Farmers did not ruin the portal.
EA did because:
- They created the attachment grind that encouraged people to seek shortcuts.
- They cheaped out and did not get enough server capacity for all the active players they wanted to have
- They chose to nuke progression for everyone instead of just adjusting bots to not be worth farming over players.

I agree, but I legitimately don't think XP farmers are an issue, all they are doing is affecting their own progression. Why should anyone care? The real core issue is the assignments and insane grind for attachments and levels. I have been trying to do the first Support assignment for multiple days now and cannot get the players healed to go up more than a little bit each match, it's ridiculous. Same for the Assault Kills while using Adrenaline challenge, I can maybe get 1 or 2 per match, needing to do 30 when the injector itself is really useless is so annoying. These wouldn't even need to be adjusted THAT much, just lower the requirements so players can actually unlock the gadgets they want without having to grind through them for hours. If this grindiness is not fixed, I genuinely might just drop the game entirely, glad I got 1 month of EA Play Pro instead of dropping 70€ for this.

The adrenaline injector is completely useless, why is this even in the game, it lasts like 4 - 5 seconds and does absolutely nothing, they should change it to a rapid heal. The assault class is the weakest and most useless, having the ability to carry two weapons but the ammo cut in half is the same as having one weapon.

I agree they killed it

Yeah the way they handled the xp farms clogging the game was...not wise lol.
XP farms are a symptom of decoupling attachments and gadgets from level. DICE is literally creating an environment that's incredibly hostile to new players since those attachments are game-defining in terms of bloom, recoil, aiming, etc.

I completely agree. And not only did they kill Portal, but they removed the EA sponsored mixed bot and player mode in training grounds. I'm very much a casual gamer and Battlefield was the last casual shooter out there, but it seems they aren't interested in that anymore. Thankfully I didn't buy the game, just got EA Pro. I'm canceling after this month until they bring back some kind of Solo Mode.
