Waiting almost the full two weeks to make these changes is a **bleep**ing travesty. If this had been disabled from the start I would have been disappointed, refunded, and moved on. Now I'm out the full cost of the game because I've played more than Steam's refund period.
They could have restricted the settings that allowed maps with bots that have no health, no weapons, and don't move, they could have added AFK timers so that AFK farming would be far more difficult if not impossible. Instead now people who just wanted a casual experience against bots with any amount of XP gain are completely screwed with no recourse to get their money back.

Exactly how I feel. If they were going to do this, they should have done it from the start. The only acceptable course of action for them is to buy more server capacity and fulfill what they promised to the players and what the game launched on. One free persistent server for every person who bought the game, with full progression for all official experiences with backfill.

You can still refund on steam
Here’s a clear bulletin-style set of instructions you can post or follow to request a Steam refund for false or misleading marketing (e.g. “developers lied about features that don’t exist in game”):
---
🧾 How to Request a Refund on Steam (for False or Misleading Marketing)
Reason: Developers advertised features that do not exist or were falsely represented in the store page or trailers.
---
Step 1: Go to Steam Support
1. Open your web browser and go to:
2. Log in with your Steam account.
---
Step 2: Select the Game
1. Under “Recent Purchases”, click the game you want to refund.
If you don’t see it there, click “Purchases” and find it in your purchase history.
---
Step 3: Choose the Issue
1. Click “I have a question about this purchase” or “It’s not what I expected.”
2. Then choose “I’d like to request a refund.”
---
Step 4: Explain the Reason
In the text box, clearly explain why you believe the game was falsely advertised.
Example wording:
> The game’s marketing and store page claimed features (e.g., multiplayer, open world systems, [insert specific features]) that are not present in the actual game.
This constitutes misleading advertising, and I am requesting a refund on the basis of false or deceptive marketing practices.
---
Step 5: Submit the Request
Review your submission and click “Submit request.”
You’ll get a confirmation email from Steam Support.
Refunds are typically processed within a few days.
---
Extra Tips
Time limit: Steam usually allows refunds within 14 days of purchase and under 2 hours of playtime, but they may approve exceptions for false advertising or technical deception.
Evidence helps: If possible, include brief proof (screenshots or quotes) showing the claims vs. reality.
Be concise and polite: Steam staff are more likely to grant refunds when the reason is clear and factual.

I tried twice with steam for a refund and both times rejected as it was outside their 2 hr window here is my reason in my ticket
Hello Steam Support,
I am requesting a refund for Battlefield 6, purchased on Steam. At the time of purchase, the game was advertised to include:
🖥️ Persistent private servers that remain listed in the browser
🎯 Full progression system within these private servers, including weapon mastery, assignments, and XP rewards
As a disabled player, these features were essential for me to play fairly. Recent changes — e.g., “Portal servers no longer provide XP progression” or “server persistence no longer functions as advertised” — have broken the system, making it impossible for me to compete with able-bodied players and preventing me from enjoying the game as intended.
Because these features were a key reason for my purchase and have now been removed or altered, this constitutes failure to deliver advertised functionality. I am therefore requesting a full refund.
I understand Steam’s refund policy, but this situation qualifies as an exception due to significant removal of advertised functionality combined with accessibility concerns.

I requested a refund from Steam for similar reasons, but both were denied. Yes, they fall back on the "policy" but those are just written to cover most ordinary circumstances. Unusual or extraordinary circumstances can be easily handled on a case-by-case basis. EA decided to disable the primary play mode(after one week), which was the sole reason for many purchases. Whether they played 4, 6, or 10+ hours is not relevant; they made the arbitrary decision to remove it instead of eliminating the exploits. The next step is to contact the bank where the game was purchased, and then to the BBB if that fails.
Just give the people what was promised: a persistent server with full XP progression, and deal with those who exploit just as you would players using cheats, or refund the purchase price.
