Who likes mortars in breakthrough?

Mortars are one of the worst ideas implemented in BF for breakthrough.

  1. Playing mortar is super boring.
  2. Playing against mortar is annoying.
  3. To counter mortar you have to play mortar... and guess what: see number 1.

So if I wanna do something about mortars I am forced to play this 90s 2D cheap bombing game. I don´t mind switching tactics and classes, but this is just a silly and boring mortar vs mortar game.

The idea is probably to have an effective weapon vs campers but it is completely missing the point in breakthrough. It is used to just randomly bomb the point all the time while hiding behind your base line. So people got a nice cosy warm camping spot in their base while throwing bombs on the point.

My proposed solution: make mortars NOT usable in their own secure territory. Make them come out and have at least some risk of being shot.

Thanks for reading!

  • Mortars being disabled in breakthrough would just make the most sense.  There's already a limited use case for them, and trying to balance them in breakthrough is never going to workout.

If the idea is area denial, or cover, or breaking enemies out of cover, then GL gadgets and smoke can already fill that role.  They fill them quite well actually, when used correctly, probably even more useful than mortars during the mortar patches when they were most broken.
