Battlefield 6 Build 24368413 causes black screen and system-level restart
After Battlefield 6 updated to Steam BuildID 24368413 on August 4, the game began causing complete system crashes.
Battlefield 6 worked normally on this PC before this update, and other games remain stable.
What happens:
1. I launch Battlefield 6 through Steam.
2. The game runs for several minutes.
3. The game completely freezes and the screen turns black.
4. The PC automatically restarts without displaying a normal Battlefield crash message or visible BSOD.
5. During the most recent incident, the computer entered the BIOS twice instead of booting Windows. A manual restart
was required before Windows recovered.
Windows recorded the latest crash as:
- Bugcheck: 0xC000021A
- Bugcheck information saved by EFI: Yes
- Kernel-Power Event ID 41
- Dump creation failed: volmgr Event ID 161
- BugCheckProgress: 0x00040049
Because dump creation failed, Battlefield did not generate a new crash dump and Windows did not create a minidump.
Steam also did not record a normal game process exit.
System specifications:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-14700K
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER
- NVIDIA driver: 610.88
- Memory: 64 GB DDR5-6000
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI S
- BIOS: 2107
- Windows 11 build: 26200
- Game platform: Steam
- Battlefield 6 Steam BuildID: 24368413
Troubleshooting already performed:
- Disabled NVIDIA in-game overlay
- Disabled Steam Overlay globally and specifically for Battlefield 6
- Verified that memory is stable at its current frequency and has passed memory testing
- Ran CHKDSK online scan: no file-system errors or bad sectors
- Ran SFC verification: no Windows system-file integrity violations
- Checked Windows Event Viewer: no nvlddmkm driver reset or normal Battlefield application crash event
- Storage devices currently report healthy status
- Other games and normal system workloads are stable
The crashes began after the latest Battlefield 6 update and are reproducible only while playing Battlefield 6. Another
player report describes the same update-related black-screen and automatic-restart behavior.
Please investigate a possible regression in the current Battlefield 6 build, including its interaction with DX12,
NVIDIA drivers, DLSS Frame Generation, and EA AntiCheat. Please also advise what additional logging can be enabled,
since both the Battlefield crash dump and Windows kernel dump fail to write when this occurs.
