BF6 won’t launch (black window, no error)

Hello,

After performing a clean reinstall of Windows 11 and graphics drivers, I’m unable to launch Battlefield 6 via Steam. When I click Play, the EA App opens briefly, a small black window appears, and then nothing happens — there’s no error message, no crash report, and the process simply terminates.

Steps I’ve already taken:

  • Performed a full DDU driver clean and reinstalled the latest NVIDIA Game Ready driver (581.42, RTX 4080).
  • Verified game files in Steam.
  • Repaired EA App integration (Steam → EA App handoff).
  • Manually reinstalled EA Anti-Cheat via command prompt.
  • Cleared DirectX shader cache and NVIDIA cache folders.
  • Renamed the Documents\Battlefield 6 folder to regenerate configs.
  • Forced DirectX 11 launch using the flag -RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 1.
  • Launched both Steam and EA App as Administrator.

Current behaviour:

  • Game opens a small black box (window), then silently closes.
  • No visible errors in the EA App or Steam.
  • Nothing unusual logged in Event Viewer (just “Application Hang” with Battlefield6.exe).

System specs:

  • Windows 11 Pro, build 26100
  • Intel i9-9900K
  • NVIDIA RTX 4080 (driver 581.42 WHQL)
  • 32 GB RAM
  • Game installed on NVMe SSD
  • Steam and EA App are both up to date

Would appreciate any suggestions — particularly regarding EA Anti-Cheat re-registration, DX12 shader rebuild, or EA App startup dependencies that could cause a silent hang.

Thanks in advance for any help,

  • After days of troubleshooting, I finally got Battlefield 6 working. Posting this in case it helps anyone else stuck at the splash screen or black window stage.

    System Summary

    • Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (Build 26100.6725, clean install)
    • Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE-CF (BIOS updated from F9 → F12c)
    • NVIDIA 581.42 driver (clean install using DDU)
    • Game installed on secondary SSD (G:)
    • Multiple internal drives: mix of SSDs and HDDs

    Symptoms

    • Game would open a black window and hang before the EA splash screen.
    • EA AntiCheat failed to register as an installed service (SC query returned Error 1060).
    • NVIDIA App install also failed repeatedly (Error 0x80004005).

    What Didn’t Work

    • Reinstalling BF6, EA App, Steam
    • Reinstalling NVIDIA drivers (normal and DDU)
    • Re-registering EA AntiCheat manually
    • Repairing Windows with DISM / SFC
    • BIOS Secure Boot toggles
    • Removing Razer services

    The Real Cause
It turned out my data drives were BitLocker-encrypted and one was part of a degraded Storage Pool. EA AntiCheat could not initialise properly because of how Windows mounts protected or virtualised volumes.

    The Fix

    • Fully decrypted all drives using manage-bde -status and waited until 0.0% Encrypted across the board.
    • Deleted the legacy Storage Pool under Settings → System → Storage → Advanced → Storage Spaces.
    • Clean-installed Windows 11 25H2 from USB (GPT, Secure Boot ON).
    • Updated BIOS (Gigabyte F12c, June 2025).
    • Installed only chipset and GPU drivers, then Battlefield 6.

    Game launched immediately after that.

    Takeaway
If you’ve tried everything else and BF6 still won’t launch:

    • Check for BitLocker encryption or Storage Spaces on any drive.
    • Decrypt and remove them before reinstalling the game.
    • Keep Secure Boot on, but ensure all drives use GPT, not MBR.

Thank you so much. This actually worked. Not sure why that one setting prevented the game from just launching.

    Hey all,

Had this exact issue, if you all are running nvidia 40/50 series cards. Go into Nvidia App, go to Graphics, go to BF6 and turn Smooth Motion to Off, for good measure i also turned the Global Smooth Motion off, launched first try after that, no restart needed.

Same here, started today, loading screen, then black window, then it closes and my pc feels like he just had a stroke, programs take forever to load. After simply restarting the pc the game launches again but once closed, it wont launch again.

I’ve gone through all the steps and fixes people have had work for them, I get the black window after splash screen and then closes with no report or error. Any progress or solutions found here?

Same here. First EA/BF requires me to change BIOS - a first that a game forces me to do that. I run many things and don't reboot daily, so that took me five days to get to. Ok, secure boot is probably fine and will not mess up too much.

THEN this BUG. I am inclined to claim my money back if this is not resolved in the next few days. There are other games and other prividers than EA...

  • Ok quick update on the additional steps I have taken:

    System:

    • Windows 11 Pro (25H2, Build 26200.6725 – KB50665789)
    • UEFI BIOS: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE-CF, Firmware F12c (June 2025, Secure Boot enabled)
    • CPU/GPU: Intel i9 / NVIDIA RTX (latest driver 581.42, clean DDU install)
    • Drives: All GPT + NTFS (converted from mixed GPT/MBR layout)
    • EA App on C:, Battlefield 6 installed on G:\ (GPT SSD)

    Steps Already Taken

    1. Clean Windows 11 Reinstallation: Fully wiped and reinstalled using official Media Creation Tool. Installed latest chipset, LAN, and MEI drivers from Gigabyte support. Applied all Windows Updates including September 2025 Cumulative Preview (KB50665789).
    2. Firmware & BIOS Updates: Updated motherboard BIOS from F9 (2019) to F12c (June 2025). Enabled Secure Boot and verified “Windows UEFI Mode.”
    3. Storage Format Consistency: Converted all internal drives to GPT + NTFS using EaseUS Partition Master. Confirmed no legacy (MBR) partitions remain.
    4. GPU Stack Refresh: Used DDU in Safe Mode to remove all NVIDIA drivers. Performed a clean install of driver 581.42 and NVIDIA App (works correctly now).
    5. EA AntiCheat Diagnostics: Attempted manual service registration via command line, but sc query "EA AntiCheat Service" always returns Error 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling using both EA App and manual commands – no service is created.
    6. System Integrity Checks: Ran sfc /scannow and DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth – no violations. Verified WinDefend service running and Secure Boot key configuration valid.
    7. Peripheral & Driver Conflicts: Removed legacy Razer software and checked Event Viewer for related faults (none remain).
    8. Hardware Validation: Confirmed all disks GPT, all firmware Secure Boot–compliant, no virtualisation errors, VBS enabled.

    Hypothesis:

EA AntiCheat fails to register its kernel service when multiple drives or residual Storage Spaces exist, possibly due to conflicts in Windows’ virtual disk enumeration.

Given all UEFI, GPT, and driver requirements are met, the issue likely lies within the EAAntiCheat installer logic.

    Next Planned Test:

Delete any Storage Spaces / Storage Pools under

Settings → System → Storage → Advanced storage settings → Storage Spaces,

then retry Battlefield 6 launch (per reports that orphaned pools can block EA AntiCheat initialisation).

    Request:

If anyone has managed to resolve this without disabling Secure Boot or reinstalling Windows again, please share how the EA AntiCheat service registered successfully.

All logs and event traces can be provided upon request.

  • Same thing here been trying for the last 5 hours to troubleshoot and launch

  • Same here was working 10/10 and 10/11 but 10/13 not working
