Can't connect with friends over EA

I can send them invites, but they can't seem to see me or click on what looks like me. Also, I can join party with some friends but can't even see the option to join others. Very strange. 

I thought it might be because my accounts EA and Steam aren't linked, but they are. So I am totally confused.

Anybody?
