I finally managed to get my son access to play this game. The "fix" is what others have stated as well. You'll need to create a fake EA account and link that account to your child's Xbox Gamertag. I had to verify a ton of stuff with EA Support via chat to have the child EA account un-linked so that I can create a new link to the newly created EA account. You have to have support un-link the account first though.

The issue comes down to the way that EA has migrated the age-restricted EA accounts from years ago. You can't actually log into the EA accounts for a child because it's essentially linked to the parent account. I believe the child account email address is listed with an anonymous.ea.com email domain. So, when you try to start up Battlefield 6 (after the update), it tries to link to the parent account. Since you can't have two Gamertag linked to the same EA account, the child account is most likely NOT going to have access. That's why it fails when it tries to connect to the online services. My best guess is that the issue started with the Battle Pass addition and possible Phantom edition purchasing options. I guess it was designed so that in-game purchases can't be shared, which kinda makes sense.
This is an extremely janky system that EA has in place for these accounts. It involves creating a "fake" kids account in which the child account loses all previous progress due to the account switch. I also don't think that EA is going to place this issue as a priority as it only affect a small subset of users.
I know it's not the answer that we want, but it at least lets our kids play the game that we paid for.

It feels quite bizzare that you have to lose all progress on other games to solve this issue. Not to mention that Battlefield 2042 has/had the exact same monetization system as Battlefield 6 and that game is not experiencing the same issue.
What kind of things did you have to verify? I'm trying to help my sibling with this issue but I'm not their legal guardian or anything. Mostly because our parents know very little of video games and are not very tech savy. So it's a bit harder to fix for me. At this point I'm probably giving up, because the options to fix it involves losing all progress on other games and I'm not sure it's worth it. - ahans20064 days agoSeasoned Novice
They need to escalate this and get it corrected. Having to create a new account is an unacceptable solution.

We've bitten the bullet and got EA support live chat to unlink my sons anonymous.ea.com EA account from his Xbox Gametag. We then created a proper EA account and linked this back to his Xbox Gametag.
Yes, he goes back to level 1, but before this I was having trouble linking the child EA (anonymous.ea.com) account to Steam anyway as he's getting a ROG Ally Xbox for Christmas so will be moving to the PC version of the game then. So taking the hit now allows him to build his levels back up on the Xbox before Christmas, than carry that progress forward on the ROG handheld. This made it an easier decision for us to unlink the broken EA account now really.
