game crashed after a few minutes of play

so i havent played for at least two seasons and i decided to give the game another go since a friend picked it up and wanted to play. long story short i loaded in just fine and started playing and boom my PC hard crashes frozen. i had to power cycle the computer to get it running again. any fixes for this?
