Re: BF6 crashing and causing PC to restart

Second time posting this, first got deleted for whatever reason.

Been having an issue since full launch of the game freezing my entire PC causing me to hold the power button to reset. I am able to play 1-3 games before the game crashes to desktop or goes black screen and then proceeds to freeze every other app on my PC to the point of CTRL+ALT+DEL not working to force stop everything.

The issue:

Sometime when in game, the gun model disappears for a while, or the player model disappears, or I lose audio, or any combination of the three. That's when I know I have 5-10min before a full computer crash. I have all setting set to low or turned off, no in-game overlays, and had it set to both full screen and full screen borderless to no avail.

The solutions have tried:

  • Reset everything, pulling the plug on the power supply overnight
  • Reseated and re-thermal pasted my CUP and cooler, deep clean all other components
  • Flashed BIOS to the latest version, F39j on a X570 Aorus Master mobo (v1.2). This gave me the longest time with no crash for about 3hrs.
  • Updated GeForce graphics drivers (581.42) and reinstalled them too
  • Latest Win11 updates installed
  • Latest AMD chip set driver installed
  • Updating virtual memory via this method: advanced system settings > performance settings > advanced > virtual memory > change and setting both the initial size and the maximum size to 30000
  • Cleared DirectX shaders and reinstalled per the following steps:
    • Check DirectX Shader Cache
    • Press OK
    • Go to nVidia Control Panel
    • Set Shader Cache Size to "Disabled"
    • Reboot your PC (! this is important)
    • Set Shader Cache Size to 100GB
  • Uninstalled/re-installed the game and numerous Verified Integrity of Game Files on Steam
  • Scoured other forums for any potential solutions but can't find this exact issue of the entire PC freezing as well

My PC and game details:

  • Win11 Pro
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X running at 3.80 GHz
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080 FE
  • 64GB DDR4 RAM running at 2666 MT/s
  • Boot drive and game file drive are both Samsung 970 NVME
  • Game running on Steam (tried to run as admin but that caused it to crash the quickest)

    • Issue: Game crashes to desktop w/ no warning or error. Then all apps proceed to freeze on my PC. Usually discord first, I lose audio when talking, then crash comes a couple min later. Have to hold down power to reboot. Soemtimes I lose game audio or crosshair or gun/player model in game too before a crash.
    • No error codes, straight to desktop then freezes system

2 x sticks of 32gb (G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4-3600 CL18.) No XMP profile active at the moment as I turned that off in troubleshooting efforts earlier. Much appreciated for the reply.

bigchief1001 here's a few things to try. Do them one at a time so you know which one fixed the crashing.

    1. Update the motherboard BIOS firmware to the latest version.
    2. Go into Nvidia Control Panel, click on the help menu, then click on debug mode. This will disable any overclocking on the video card.
    3. Go into motherboard BIOS settings and disable AMD precision boost overdrive for the CPU. This will disable CPU overclocking. Take pictures with your phone of BIOS settings so you can change them back later.

    4. If the PC is still crashing then unplug all usb audio devices from the PC and see if that helps.
    5. Double check the memory sticks are in the correct motherboard slots. Gigabyte recommends slot A2 and slot B2.
    6. Try unplugging one of the memory sticks and only leave one stick plugged into slot A2. Then switch sticks and only have the other stick plugged into B2. We're trying to rule out one of the memory sticks or slots being faulty. Also visually inspect the memory slots on the motherboard for bent pins.
    7. Run a Memory Test on the memory sticks using HCI MemTester. This will take a really long time. That's why I put it on the bottom of the list. https://hcidesign.com/memtest/

Had some time today to try the solutions in order.

    1. Updated to latest 10/29/25 BIOS release, still crashed
    2. Flipped on debug mode in NVIDIA Control Panel, no crashes yet! Played for 5-6 games when I typically get 1-3 before a crash. Will continue to test.
    3.  No need yet
    4.  No need yet
    5. A2 and B2 confirmed
    6.  No need yet
    7.  No need yet

I appreciate the comment on this and am getting hopeful this is a fix but we will see as time goes on. Thank you again OskooI_007 .

The debug mode worked for a few days and it was great, but now I'm back to crashing again with the same frequency as before. Will work my way down the list again...
