Severe (XMP?) PC crash

Hello EA,

Please fix the X.M.P. crash urgently!

I was able to play BF6 for 20 hours across several sessions.

Sometimes for 4 hours at a time.

BUT: After a total of 20 hours of playtime, an unacceptable crash occurs (black screen on all monitors, crash sound from many running programs, forced shutdown via case button necessary).

Since then, I haven't played BF6 anymore. I'll play it again as soon as the bug is fixed. Because it's actually fun... for the first time in a long time.

Users with similar problems report that it could be due to X.M.P. profiles. That may indeed be the case. But these crashes ONLY occur with BF6.

And I'm not going to disable my fully compatible X.M.P. profile just because of BF6.

No Game errors found. No Windows errors found. All drivers up to date.

Please do something about it.

Best regards,

Michael

These crashes are likely a hardware issue, specifically memory and CPU, not BF6. Just because the issue only happens in BF6 doesn't mean BF6 is "broken". BF6 fully utilizes hardware resources and stresses your hardware a lot more or differently than other applications.

Here is my advice, G.Skill RAM has always been hit or miss for me. If you have access to another kit of RAM I would switch it out and see if it resolves the issue. G.Skill is one of the worst brands for reliability especially when using their OC models. The other option is to disable XMP and run at the BIOS defaults. Just because memory has an XMP or EXPO profile doesn't mean it runs stable with it and G.Skill has been sued for false advertising before.

Another thing to consider is your CPU, 10900K has an integrated memory controller (most modern CPU's are like this) but it tends to be "weaker" and may not run stable especially considering the capacity of each module, 32 GB is a lot for a single module.
If you can change the memory, try using smaller 16 GB modules from another brand. If you can change the CPU, try an i7.

I have now successfully updated the UEFI to 24f.

    But the question remains:

When will the XMP issue be resolved?

IMPORTANT: XMP Profile 1 is fully compatible and XMP has never caused any problems before.

I will not restart the game until the changelogs state that XMP-related issues have been resolved.

Everything is up-to-date. Really EVERYTHING, even video codecs.

Either I get help, or I expect you to tell me the next steps for a refund.

And yes, the RAM modules are on the list and marked as XMP-enabled/compatible.

Here. BIOS date says “2021”, but it is updated to Version F24a.

  • Michaelp800 XMP crashes are caused by hardware stability issues.

Motherboard manufacturers spend a large amount of time testing and tuning the memory timings for hundreds of memory sticks on their motherboards. They then create a qualified vendor lists (QVL) of all the memory sticks that have passed their testing. Memory that passes has custom memory timings saved into the motherboard BIOS firmware for each and every memory stick on the QVL list.

Is the part number for your memory on the Gigabyte Z490 AORUS MASTER QVL list? If not, then that might explain why XMP memory overclocking is unstable and crashing.

I'm willing to check if your memory is on the QVL list. Download HWiNFO and post a screenshot of your System Summary. It will show the model number of your memory.

Don't feel bad if this is your first time hearing about the QVL list. I also learned about it the hard way after purchasing memory that wasn't fully compatible with my motherboard. Now I always make sure to purchase memory that's on the motherboard's QVL list for maximum speed and stability.
