Resolution and Freesync settings not working correctly causing visual stutter

Season 5 appears to have settings consistency issues. There are two separate bugs which are both contributing to graphical glitches and poor performance. I have 80-120 FPS depending on scene complexity but it feels like 30FPS with the amount of eye strain and visual disturbance it causes. I suspect this to be mainly frame timing/screen tear related. This issue was not present before the Season 5 update.

Bug 1

When using a non-native resolution setting, for example when upscaling, your resolution setting is ignored after any kind of graphics transition e.g. alt-tabbing, and your ingame resolution resets to native.

In my case this means that while I have 1080p set in game to allow AMD to upscale from 1080p to 1440p, instead the game renders natively at 1440p causing huge FPS drops.

Reproduction: Launch the game in a sub-native resolution e.g. 1080p on a 1440p monitor. Open the full performance overlay to confirm the game is running in 1080p as launched. Then tab out, tab back in and check your resolution. For extra brownie points, set up upscaling in the AMD Adrenalin control centre and watch as it deactivates because the game is already running full resolution so no upscaling is required/possible.

Bug 2

Freesync is not active/not working correctly on game launch.

In order to reduce screen tearing through Freesync and AMD Enhanced Sync, I need to go into my monitor's OSD, fully disable Adaptive-Sync, and re-enable it. This massively reduces screen tearing so I can only assume that Freesync was not activated until I did this. Reproduced 3x in various BF6 MP gamemodes and the Firing Range. This is difficult to confirm beyond anecdotal/visual assessment because there is no diagnostic that I know of to show whether the feature is active. I can at least testify that the game felt awful before I performed the above steps, especially in busier scenes such as top of the mountain on Contaminated where my PC was dropping frames.

Reproduction: Launch the game on a PC which is effectively maxed out 100% GPU + 100% CPU. Ideally be around 60-120 FPS. Look around or move around rapidly and observe choppy/laggy visuals. Turn your monitor's GSync/FreeSync off and on again. Observe again.

PC Specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 5600x CPU @ PBO
  • AMD Radeon 6650XT GPU @ Driver OC settings
  • 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM @ DOCP
  • Adequate PSU
  • MSI G272QPF E2 monitor running on DisplayPort, Adaptive-Sync (Free/Gsync compatible) on
  • NVME SSD
  • Windows 10
  • B450M-A motherboard

I have tried:

  • Driver update (none available)
  • Verify game files
  • Delete shader cache
  • Settings to lowest
  • VSync and GSync on/off, various permutations thereof.
  • Upscaling on/off
  • Framegen on/off (default for me is off)
  • Profsave delete and run game on default performance preset

This could be GPU driver issues, but it coincided with the start of Season 5. Prior to the Season 5 update the resolution and Freesync settings seemed to obey my command from launch.
