Subject: Battlefield 6 – repeatable crash / black screen on RX 9070
Hello,
I have a repeatable crash in Battlefield 6 that I have not been able to fix despite extensive troubleshooting, including a clean Windows reinstall. Crash dumps are attached.
System
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 gaming x wifi6, BIOS updated to the latest version
RAM: 16G DDr4 3600 mts
PSU: 1000 W, GPU powered by two separate 8-pin PCIe cables (no daisy-chain)
OS: Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (build 26100), fresh install
Game: Battlefield 6 on Steam
EA ID: sharkyprod
Symptoms
The game crashes in menus, when joining or leaving a match, and during gameplay.
Usually the screen goes black , the whole PC freezes (fans and RGB stay on, no sound, no input) and I have to force a shutdown.
Sometimes a Frostbite crash dump is written, sometimes none is.
Once, just before a crash in a menu transition, I saw the FPS jump from about 100 to 600.
Every other game I play runs without problems.
Crash dump details
Exception: 0x80000003 (breakpoint / int 3) in bf6.exe, on the main thread.
Frostbite MiniDump address: 14555b5a0 on the previous build, 14555b7d0 since the latest update. The address is the same in every dump.
The nearest exported symbol is ffxFsr2ResourceIsNull (at a large offset), and the crash happens even with FSR/upscaling disabled.
Troubleshooting already done (none fixed it)
Updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest version.
Confirmed Secure Boot is on, UEFI mode, and TPM 2.0 is ready.
Complete clean Windows reinstall (switched from Home to Pro), with Steam and BF6 freshly reinstalled and no old files kept.
Verified game files in Steam.
Removed third-party antivirus (Norton); no overlays or injected DLLs appear in the dumps.
Removed a duplicate EA app copy of the game; launching only from Steam.
Disabled the EA in-game overlay.
Clean boot (non-Microsoft services and startup apps disabled).
Clean GPU driver reinstall with DDU in Safe Mode, tested the latest Adrenalin driver and rolled back to 26.3.1.
XMP disabled; BIOS Optimized Defaults loaded (PBO / Curve Optimizer off).
MemTest86: 4 full passes, no errors.
Disabled Resizable BAR and Above 4G Decoding.
Forced the PCIe slot to Gen 4, then Gen 3.
GPU clock offset −500 MHz, power limit −10%.
Lowest graphics preset, FSR and frame generation off.
Frame rate capped in-game and in Adrenalin, VSync on in-game, “Wait for Vertical Refresh” forced in Adrenalin, Radeon Chill on, Anti-Lag off.
Temporarily disabled the firewall for BF6.
Several other RX 9070 / 9070 XT owners report very similar crashes on the EA forums, so this may be a game or driver issue with RDNA 4 cards. Please let me know if you need more logs or a DxDiag, or if there is a debug build or extra logging I can run to help.
