Why is matchmaking so broken

It's peak playing time in EU and i can still not find enaugh players to start a single match of gauntlet on ps5 with crossplay off. I've been trying for almost an hour. Restarting the matchmaking does not fix it. I'm sure there are plenty of players right now. Why is it not working?
