Alaskan Battlefield Map Proposal
Battlefield will always be my favorite game of all time. It's always been a passion of mine to try and persuade the Team at Dice EA to make another great map or maps in the Alaskan region. Here's my proposal:
Weather effects
Blizzards: Suddenly, visibility drops to near zero. Snipers are useless, and it's all close-quarters chaos.
Aurora Borealis: night maps lit up by the Northern Lights. Visually stunning and could mess with night vision/thermal.
Ice Fog: Super dense fog popping up, making for tense, close-up fights where you rely on sound.
High Seas: Naval battles on the Alaskan coastline with powerful wind and crashing waves.
Earthquakes: sink holes old style Alaskan buildings crumbled with riddled landscapes or cities
Seasons:
Winter:
Deep snow is slowing you down, vehicles sare struggling, maybe snowmobiles become key. Frozen lakes you can cross or break through.
Summer:
Dense forests for ambushes, open tundra for vehicle battles, maybe even coastal areas with boats. Plus, that midnight sun could mean super long daylight battles.
Fall:
Glowing birch trees. This type of light is often referred to by photographers and nature enthusiasts as the "magic hour" or "golden hour", although in the late fall in Alaska, this period can last longer than an hour due to the low sun angle. This is a very surreal experience to see in person. This usually only happens in our upper side of the hemisphere.
Locations:
Tongass National Forest (Southeast Alaska - Gulf of Alaska Region)
Uniqueness: This is the largest temperate rainforest in the world, characterized by towering Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and western red cedar, dense undergrowth of ferns and green mosses, and rugged, mountainous terrain often plunging directly into the ocean, amongst frequent rainfall and mist.
Battlefield Potential: Dense Alaska Rainforest Warfare Intense close-quarters infantry combat within the thick vegetation, offering ample cover and concealment.
Vertical Gameplay: Utilizing the steep, forested slopes for ambushes and strategic positioning.
Coastal Infiltration Amphibious landings on rocky beaches and hidden coves.
Limited Visibility Implementing weather effects like heavy rain and fog to create challenging and atmospheric gameplay.
Unique Soundscape The sounds of the rainforest – rushing water, birdsong, and rustling leaves – could add to the immersion.
Kennicott Mine and McCarthy Area (Wrangell-St Elias National Park)
Uniqueness: A remarkably preserved ghost town from the copper mining era, nestled amidst stunning glaciers and rugged mountains. The town itself features historic buildings, mill structures, and tramways. The surrounding area offers vast wilderness, glaciers like the Root Glacier, and the Kennicott River.
Battlefield Potential: Urban Ruins Combat Intense close-quarters fighting within the multi-level mine buildings and the town of McCarthy.
Glacier Traversal: Utilizing the Root Glacier for strategic movement or as a dynamic environmental element.
Mountainous Terrain Sniping positions and flanking routes along the steep slopes.
Industrial Objectives Control key mine buildings, the mill, or the power plant.
Historical Atmosphere A visually striking and historically rich setting.
Denali National Park/Mount Denali (America's Biggest Mountain)
Uniqueness: Towering mountains (including Denali itself), vast tundra landscapes, braided river valleys, and alpine forests.
Battlefield Potential: Long-Range Engagements Open tundra allowing for vehicle combat and long-distance sniper fire.
Mountain Warfare utilizes the elevation changes for strategic positioning and challenging infantry combat.
Weather Effects: Implementing dynamic weather like blizzards or fog to impact visibility and gameplay.
Iconic Landmark Denali could serve as a powerful visual centerpiece.
A Remote Alaskan Native Village and Surrounding Wilderness (e g in the Interior or along a river)
Uniqueness: A small community nestled within a vast wilderness of forests, rivers, and lakes.
Battlefield Potential: Urban/Rural Hybrid Combat Fighting in and around the village structures, transitioning to open wilderness.
Riverine Warfare Utilizing boats and other watercraft for transportation and combat along rivers and lakes.
Environmental Cover Utilize the natural terrain for ambushes and flanking.
Cultural Elements (Respectfully Integrated): Incorporating traditional architecture or landmarks as visual elements like totem poles and other Alaskan indigenous structures.
Prince William Sound - Specifically the Bay of Isles
Uniqueness: Prince William Sound is renowned for its vast islands and great fishing spots, featuring numerous small, often uninhabited islands, intricate waterways and channels, rocky shorelines, and abundant marine wildlife. In the summer, its known for its lush greenery and calm waters.
Battlefield Potential: Island Hopping and Naval Warfare Utilizing boats and other watercraft to navigate between islands and engage in naval combat.
Amphibious Assaults Landing on various islands to capture objectives.
Varied Island Terrain Each island could offer different landscapes, from rocky outcrops to forested hills.
Wildlife Encounters (Atmospheric) Seeing whales, killer whales, sea otters, and seabirds could enhance the visual experience (without necessarily making them targets).
Strategic Waterways Controlling key channels and passages could be crucial for victory.
Potential for Submarine Gameplay (If Applicable to the New Battlefield Title): The deep waters of Prince William Sound could offer opportunities for submarine warfare.
Volcanic Region ( The Ring of Fire)
Uniqueness: Rugged volcanic landscapes, potentially with active or dormant volcanoes, lava fields, and geothermal features.
Battlefield Potential: Unique Terrain Challenges Navigating around craters, lava flows, and uneven ground.
Environmental Hazards: Potential for volcanic activity (visual effects, not necessarily game-breaking events).
Island Warfare Many volcanic areas are on islands, lending themselves to naval and amphibious combat.
Visually Striking The dramatic volcanic scenery would be incredibly memorable.
I'm an amateur photographer/Videographer here in Anchorage, AK, and it's always been a passion of mine to see a new Alaskan map. If there's any incentive on this, I am willing to provide my photography and videography skills to assist in the research and development of an Alaskan map; if and when that ever happens lol. I think Alaska could also yield good marketing leverage within our vast landscape in promotional material or even storytelling.
I know it's a shot in the dark and probably won't get any traction, but I thought, "What the hell?" I've been tempted to post here for a while. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm also very sick right now, so forgive me if I forgot anything and/or repeated myself. I've also included some images below that give some insight into our surrounding area.
