Battlefield 1 will not start

Whenever I try to open the game, through steam or through the EA app the game says it is running for a few seconds and then doesn't start. I've owned the game for only a few days and have only opened it twice. Please help

  • Hello @realmonk25,

    Try the following troubleshooting steps.
    1. Check Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and see if the game is running in the background. If it is, end the process and then try launching the game again.

    2. Verify Game Files:

      • Steam: Right-click on the game in your library, select "Properties," go to the "Local Files" tab, and click "Verify integrity of game files."
      • EA App: Go to your library, right-click on the game, and select "Repair."
    3. Run as Administrator: Try running both the Steam and EA apps as an administrator. Right-click the shortcut and select "Run as administrator."

    4. Disable Background Applications: Close any unnecessary programs running in the background, especially overlays or recording software, as they might interfere with the game.

    5. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this through the manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).

    6. Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your operating system is fully updated.

    7. Reinstall the Game: If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

    8. Check Security Software: Make sure your antivirus or firewall isn’t blocking the game. You might need to add exceptions for it.

    9. Compatibility Settings: Right-click on the game executable, go to Properties, and check the Compatibility tab. Try running it in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.

    10. Contact Support: If none of these steps work, reaching out to EA Support or Steam Support with detailed information about the issue can provide further assistance.

Let me know if you need help with any of these steps.

    Best regards,

    danisoff

@danisoff Thank you for your help. I have tried all of those steps and they do not work. However, when I run the program as administrator directly I get an EA app window that endlessly says preparing game and has a loading graphic.

    @realmonk25,

Have you tried talking to EA support? Does anything happen or it's stuck on "loading graphic"?

    Best regards,

    danisoff

@danisoff Nothing happens, and I've attempted to contact EA support and gotten nothing. Really disheartening as I've only played twice.

I've also contacted EA support about this same issue and only was told that this is a known issue that is being worked on. I was also told to "keep trying" to start the game every once in a while. No luck so far.
